anyone on here gone to the trouble of upgrading F & R zook driveshafts, i dont know if its due to been sprung over but the slip joints seems to wear out is there any companys that sell stronger driveshafts on the web or locally manufactured here in oz??? |

i had mine made locally by LG Engineering... costs about $500ea for totally custom shafts. have a search around for anyone thats a diff / driveline specialist and ask them if they manufacture in house. also - if you dont have a trac bar - get one / make one... spring wrap is what kills the splines. |

yeah its got a trac bar on it, will have to get some made up, not sure weather to go for a double cardan joints or not, hmm.. |

double cardans have less movement than a normal uni joint, and your pinion needs to point straight up to the tcase with a DC joint... i run hilux DCs on mine front and rear (both at the tcase end) and sierra unis at the pinion end... the hilux DCs are way stronger than the sierra unis so if i break one, it will break at the pinion end - of which my custom shafts run the same length ends - so if i break a rear uni i can swap the front one in and retain rear wheel drive rather than having to go front wheel drive. |

Yep. Hilux based shafts are the way to go. Same flange pattern as WT sierra. Just machine the spigots down 1mm, and voila! |

I think I'll contact PDR diffs in Geelong and see what they can do in making up some strong reliable shafts that don't chop out |

just have longer spline (so more is inside the female end) - it costs more but with more engaged it will last longer. Also make sure they put grease nipples on so you can keep them lubed. |

Owen, Phil from PDR has done all the diff work on that zook from when i owned it. Phil and i had discussed custom driveshafts in the past, but i kept sourcing good second hand ones for cheap. So Phil is definitaly the man for the job. |

yeah i used to deal with them back when i used to be into drag racing and there work was excellent yeah i know what you mean ross, i replaced the both with the 2 spares i got with the zook rear one is fine but front is shagged |

my front flogs out faster than the rear too... i'd say because there's no track bar on the front, so the driveshaft is acting as one - that plus lots of flex in the front end seems to wear it out faster than the rear. |
