Going through the motions of mounting a second shock at each wheel. The back seems pretty straight forward but the front it tight. From what i can see in front of the strut and behind the steering arm is the best place.

Still yet to play with lenghts and everything but i also need to work out what would be better. Pin to pin or pin to bush or bush bush.

Taking it to the work shop tomorrow to pull it apart and test a few locations.

Was that sarcasm or not. haha sorry its hard to tell on here sometimes. I think in the front it makes sense because of the poor choice in struts. If i can fit the remote res in the original mounts for the rear then ill just run one but the closed length is too long for the lift im running. Going to see if i can extend the top mount up a few inchs and keep it looking factory.

I don't quite understand this. What is gained by adding a second shock? Wouldn't all the extra dampening make the ride quite harsh.

Is that you car in the pics? Surely a set of bilsteins is about as good as you can get for a vitara.

My mate runs a rancho in the front of his vit for years
It is pin to pin i think
Mounts on a bracket bolted to strut bolts and jusr drilled a hole in the top of the tower

The idea is that with two shocks per wheel, the valving van be halved across each shock, allowing the shocks to run cooler and resist fade.

Back in the day, before large diameter reservoir shocks, race cars would run lots of shocks. That's the reason the OME N76 shocks are long and soft - the fitment guide for them recommends up to four(!) shocks per wheel on a heavy race truck.

However, taking a strut with close to ideal damping and adding a shock valved for a heavy car beside it will result in pretty harsh damping I'd imagine.

The old Procomp 2.5" kit ran a shock up the side of the existing strut, it looked good but people always took them off because they made the front almost rock solid.

Yeah the main aim is the reduce the valving of the strut so it is basically a locator and have the secondary shock valved and to do most of the work. That or the second shock will have very little (10%) compression dampning and have it control most of the rebound. Rough terrain and up to 30min races will fade even the koni strut with race oil i have now so the more the merrier.

No hydraulic bumps up the front pete but one remote res shock in the rear and a hydro bump will be the plan eventually.

No not my car in the pic stole it from zukiworld.

Yeah that sounds like the ideal place to mount it. Got bar work. I was even thinking i could make a bracket off the strut brace in the engine bay for the top pin.

Took some measurements today and got lucky with the shocks i bought.

This is for the REAR. Front is alot tighter fit.

OME LTR - 615 Open 400 Closed = 215mm travel.

Commodore - 550 Open 360 Closed = 190mm travel.

Ride height = 460 Full open (spring loose) = 560 Bump = 340 ish (Hydro bumps so this will be determined)

So, i want the OME to be at roughly 50% compression at ride height which = 505mm. 505mm ideal - 460mm current shock mount position = new shock mounts 45mm higher.
These shocks are pin to pin so a new lower mount will be made, as they are already low enough (200mm) we wont drop that any futher. Grinder will come out and we will clearance the body above the shock mount and move everything up 50mm.

Clearance the body above the spring mount to mount the hydraulic bumpstops.
