Hey guys, Im looking for examples of a spare tyre light bracket for the Jimny, the space is pretty tight behind there but I rekon its doable and wondered if anyone on here has done it? Would rather a clamp-on attachment as my welding skills are atrotious at best, and would rather keep the car undamaged if i want to remove it. Not too worried about welding the bracket itself. |

As soon as I get my new 31's I will be fabricating A worklight bracket for a 7 inch LED but I am not sure if I will be using the stock spare wheel mount or doing something different I will let you know what I come up with anyway if you have not made something by then. |

I was just out having a look at it now trying to decide what to do and I had a thought for your particular needs - Have you looked at making the light bracket to go on the front of the spare tyre instead of behind it? It would be very easy to make a LED light bracket to bolt onto the 2 top spare tyre bolts and have the light sitting within the rim area of the spare tyre. You can then just use a quick disconnect waterproof cable fitting and run the wire through your rim straight to the light. This means when you want to take the spare tyre off (seeing as though this is usually a rare occurrence any way) you just unplug the light where the cable runs through your rim, undo the bolts that hold the tyre on, your light comes straight off and then your tyre. This design will do a few things: 1. You don't need to weld anything just bend a bracket and drill 2 holes. 2. It keeps the light down low where you use it most (although you can make it extend up past the top of the tyre if you want to) 3. It protects the light - by it sitting down within the rim its protected - no branches or anything can get to it to damage it You can even wire the switch into the bracket directly so that you can just flick on the light when you are standing at the back of your car. Just a thought anyway - I think that I may even look at doing this myself |

yeah ive considered that, but I usually have my shovel holder on there. I guess i could still kinda make it work though. What about getting the wire out the back? have people just been drilling holes in the door?   I got sunnys on there now not the alloys, so the access is a bit better to the nuts. |

nope. its a 3 piece shovel. You can screw in a t-handle to have a short shovel, or another section of "yellow stuff" to have a long-handle shovel. They stay in the drawers though EDIT: THIS http://www.bushranger.com.au/diggar-3_piece_shovel.php |

from dank's kpd4x4 business thread:  i like that idea... mounting a bar off the spare wheel carrier so the light is up nice and high... perhaps having it near there you can see if you can route the wire through the rear wiper where that goes into the door? |

I paid 40. Alien, that pic is kinda where I got the idea. But the space limitations behind the spare between a patrol and jim are vastly different. I like that you can swivel that one to the side to your camp etc. For now I have just gotten some led strip lights for my awning which I will install when I get home next, If its not enough I will re-visit this idea. |

Isn't the spare wheel holder hollow? (I assume it is or it would weight a ton) Why don't you just drill a hole in the underside of that, run the wire through it and it will come out inside the door skin, take the plastic cover off the inside of the rear door and you will be able to rout it to the side of the door where it hinges and run it through the existing plastic boot that houses the wires for the rear window demister - that way you have not drilled any holes in the car. Also you can still have that same light bracket that is on that patrol - just that you would mount it on the front of the spare wheel instead of behind it, and you can still run the wires as I have said above. |

to dig holes.... duh Ive used it heaps of times, every trip in fact. Primarily as my crapper, but also to clear for fireplace, dig coals for the camp oven. Never for being bogged yet, but I'd rather have one and not need it.... you know the rest... Its only lightweight anyway so not like its a big deal.... anyway, steering back to the topic.... Your'e right xtreme, i forgot that the thing was hollow, the shovel holder isnt though so cant run wire via that unless i drill the face plate of it. But yeah im not going to worry about it for now, ill see how my awning lights go, might not even need to consider the rear. |
