Hi Zookers,
Recently did a Baleno engine transplant, got everything hooked up except this little vacuum switch at the back of the intake manifold, just wondering what it is and whether I need it.

not too sure about on the baleno g16 but on my 16v g16a (this thing is on the front of the intake) it is the vacuum line that went to the charcoal filter than then in turn went to the petrol tank, they have something weird to do with emmisions. i just Blanked it off, thats what all other conversions i have seen have done

Baleno G16b's do not have an egr valve.

Cool, I think I will blank it off then!

Thanks

do you have a charcoal canister though?

If you do just hook it up to the same pipe that used to attach to your engine.

The charcoal canister is connected to the fuel tank and the engine uses vacuum to suck the vapours from the fuel tank, and the charcoal filters the nastys out.

Theres no reason why it shouldnt be hooked up.

Had one, was choked up and I wanted the space it took up so I pulled it, still have it though, can you clean them? (probably not worth it?)

Well you could just get another one frmo the wreckers, any one will do. where does the vent pipe from the fuel tank go? just in the engine bay?W

No way id be too keen on a pipe venting petrol fumes hanging around open in the engine bay!

The charcoal system also releases presure from the tank, in a controlled manor (ie through the engine)

Yup, tank breather runs under the bonnet with my diff/trans breathers, on those little fuel filters, has been running like this for years with no dramas, the amount of vapour coming from the breather would be super minimal, not enough to cause any trouble.

Might see if I can find a smaller charcoal filter later on though to keep it legal.

if you want to engineer it I would hook it all up

It's an idle solenoid control valve (iscv)
It bleeds air from before the throttle body to the plenum .

Well I managed to dig a manual up and it lists it as the EVAP purge valve (carbon canister) looks like Blakej was correct.
Thanks for all the answers guys!
