I've got a set in my V6 Vit, originally fitted to my old 1.6.

I don't know the mounting arrangements of the GV at all, but there is no easy way to bolt them up. I had to fab mounts by trimming all the bolt points off the WRX seats, and then cannibalising the lugs from the Vit rails. I also had to space the outside edge down 150mm and weld the Vit mounting bits onto that.

I did the passenger side first and set everything up a little too far forward, so corrected it with the driver's side. Sucks if you're getting a lift and are over 6ft tall...

Lots of effort for a very average seat.

yeah by the sounds of it... its bit of a mission.... im surprised you though the seats were average though cause i had a wrx years ago and always though the seats where amazing.

ive also been thinking about going down the lines of more of a traditional bucket seat to really hold you in, as ive got bad neck/back which doesnt like all the flinging around u get when offroad.... i do like comfort though

got back & neck problems? get a properly designed ergonomically correct seat such as a recaro...

yeah thats not a bad idea, ive been looking at fixed bucket seats, but they are not great for a daily driver (comfort wise)

pretty keen to see what others have fitted, my GV seats overall i find VERY comfy.....but just dont have that side support off road

I had an '07 STi. The car before that was an '05 Mini Cooper S, and I didn't like the seat, so I replaced it with a Recaro SP-G. Anyway,it was exactly a week after I got the STi I couldn't stand the seat any more and the SP-G went in.

When I sold the STi, I put the stock seat back in and I thought I might have been a bit harsh on it, I thought after a couple of short drives that maybe it was ok. I drove it once for an hour and a half with the stock seat in it before I sold it and I was so sore I didn't want to get back in the car again.

I have a stock 2012 X3 now and whilst the seat is nothing special, it's quite comfortable, it's perfectly adequate and doesn't make me sore.

WRX seats are like a teenage kids idea of what a cool seat is. They're terribly designed.

I reckon that anyone that thinks they are awesome has never sat in a properly designed seat like a Recaro.

As an aside, there's nothing wrong with fixed back seats for comfort. My SP-G is the most comfortable seat I've ever sat in, because it fitted me properly. We buy shoes and clothes that fit, but apparently car seats fit everyone from a 40kg chick to a 140kg monster.

If you have legitimate back and neck problems you need to be properly fitted for a seat. A "cool" seat might be making things worse.

the WRX seats stopped being good at MY00 (2000)

I have a MY00 wrx and i reckon the seats are very comfortable and supportive.

2001 onwards though, garbage.

hmm no your right, a seat should be comfy as well as practical and perform in terms of holding your body in place.... i just googled those SP-G seats.... Daammmmmm those are the biz.... how did you find them to put in, comparing to what you read above with the WRX seats.... is yours fixed or on sliders ?

cost ?

when my seats die or i get a large cash windfall i'd LOVE to measure up some mazda rx7 seats for my sierra.... the rx7 is a TINY car, so i reckon they're likely to be a good fit... i've sat in them (the factory recaro ones) and theyre super comfy.

of course, i'd love for someone else to do the legwork for me, so feel free to investigate those as an option, and take a TON of pics and measurements and post up here =)

If you like a challenge, get your hands on some liberty GT seats. VERY comfy, but the biggest PITA to fit!!

Put Jeep wrangler seats in mine, definitely not a bucket seat but very comfy.
Bit of chopping & welding to do but not too bad, good thing is they are very narrow so fit in the zook ok.

$150/pair from wreckers

Lots of effort yes, but so will anything that doesn't come out of another Vitara - not sure what the XL7 mounting arrangements are like...

Re: WRX seats - no Steve, I can't recall ever having had the pleasure of a ride in a 'properly designed seat like a Recaro' - I'm sure Subaru just chucked the cheapest crappiest things they could into the STi. I must admit to not knowing or caring what vintage mine are either. However, my point is that I like them, they fit me well on short drives and 1200km stretches, and they are approximately a quintagillion times better than the stock Vitara garbage. Just because they don't suit you doesn't mean they're no good for anyone else.

If you'd care to donate a pair of SP-Gs I'd happily fit them up and run them if I liked them, but as I don't have a spare $1k+ lying around it ain't gonna happen otherwise.

If you have been happy with your WRX seats Darkhorse, that's great. I'd certainly go to no special effort to fit them.

I'm also suspicious that people think they are excellent because they were designed to look excellent. In fact, I bet if they had a separate headrest nobody would pay any attention to them at all. It's all in the "shoulder support" and the implied harness slots.

Personally, I'd go to lengths to fit E36 BMW 3 series seats, especially the sports seats. I fitted late model MX-6 seats to the trolley tug, and they are really comfortable and supportive. I'm not a seat snob at all- I also rate EL-EF falcon seats and I think that's what I will be putting in the f250 once I start working on it.

It's also worth me reiterating that I think a fixed back race seat is generally unsuitable for off road use, from experience.

After having leather captins chairs in the sierra I wouldn't put anything else in a Vit or a GV. Nice and soft and extremely comfy.
