Post subject:  Wiring up to ignition and dash illumination GV
Hey guys, wiring up my compressor and air locker switches and I have 1 wire that needs to go to the ignition and one to the dash illumination. Any one have a picture or diagram of where they both are? I had a look at the FSM but NFI what I'm looking at...

thery're freaking everywhere under the dashboard.... got a test light, should take all of 3 mintues to find them?

Easiest place is probably just to pop out the Aircon controls and find the LED backlight for them. Scotch lock into it and the jobs done. You can also use the power feed for the fan switch for the ignition wire as the car must be running for the fan to work. You'll just need a multimeter/light to work out which wire is positive. Its only to power an LED in the switch and trigger a relay so you don't need to worry about how much current you're drawing off these wires.

Using the AC control wiring work well because A) theyre easy to get to and find the wiring and B) you'll probably end up mounting your switches nearby.

Yes, that is a better method which I usually do but the ARB compressor kit came with the scotch locks so it was convenient. To power an LED/Relay I wasn't too fussed.

Do i need the key in or is it 24/7?

Grab the wires from the back of the radio. Test light or multimeter. Ignition power when you turn the key to ACC, headlight feed will show power when you turn the headlights on (regardless of key position in ignition)

You wont get IGN power from the radio. Grab your test light and start checking the empty spots on the fuse block. When you find an empty spot with IGN power plug into that with a crimp pin.


As for dash lights...... why not just jumper onto the light attached to the cigarette lighter socket or ash tray ???? (if fitted.)

How does the radio turn on and off then? :? Every car I've played with has had an ACC feed to the radio. And if the radio lights up at night (ie. when the headlights are on) it'll have a feed for turning the switch light on

There is a difference between Acc power and Ign power.
Acc power runs all the things like radio, A/C and those types of things.
Ign power is for engine and driveline related items .

Have a closer look at the key barrel. there are 4 different spots you can turn key to.....Off - ACC - ING -Start.

In his original post he asks for Ign power.


I run my compressor off the ING power as i cannot run without Ignition/engine running. Less chance of a flat Battery.

:oops: been a few years since i looked closely at the locker wiring diagram, turns out he does need IGN power.
