ask "jimny" on this forum.
He has a jimny, strangely enough. I've driven it and the switch thing was a bit wierd for us non techno sierra drivers, but it seemed to work ok. Not sure about how reliable it is.
My Jimny is just coming on 4 years old and although I had some oringinal reservations I haven't had any problems with the switches or the auto-hubs however as Bazzook mentioned before the auto hubs might play up if you don't use them enough. My Jimny has been out on the tracks heaps.
The best thing about the switch system is the ease in which you can change from 2WD to 4WD while travelling at up to 100 kmh. This is ideal for beach driving and especially at places like Fraser , Moreton & Straddie Island. You do have to come to a complete stop and place it into neutral to change in and out of Hi & low range but I've never found that to be a problem.
My biggest concern from the beggining was the exposed wires for the actuator located centrally under the car but contrary to my concerns nothing has ever happened to them. Now that my Jimny is lifted I doubt that these wires would ever come into contact with anything.
