Post subject:  1.3L carby on 1L motor?
Just curious, not sure if it's been done before but can a 1.3 carby be used on a 1Ltr motor? Any benefit? There's a massive dead spot in my ute, but it seems to run a little better with the choke slightly out. After a service & carby clean I'm expecting it to run a bit better... but yeah, any thoughts on my Q?

unlikely. the 1L carb is very different i think its a side draft carby?

with some custom intake manifold or adaptors it might be possible.

clean and kit your 1L carby, they go fantastic. i am daily driving one atm.

it cartainly wont just bolt on. 1 litres are sidedraft (bolts on to the side of the manifold, as opposed to the 1.3 which bolts on top) 1 litre have a manual choke, 1.3 is automatic so you would either have to convert it to manual or plump in some lines from your cooling system.

much more work and expense then rekitting the 1 litre carby which, when setup right is much more reliable offroad (side angles and hills) then the 1.3 carby.

I remember reading somewhere in a really old post that a 2 1/2" (might have been 2 1/4") SU carby is an easy mod to do with big improvements

Cool thanks guys. I had a closer look at it today & did notice it was on a different angle. I have a 1.3 carby laying around from my other zook, and wondered about it being compatible or not. In any case, the 1L will definitely be getting a clean out & maybe a kit if it doesn't start behaving. It's ok around the paddock having dead spots, but not on the roads where it could die in the ass while pulling out into traffic!

the dead spots will probably be the rubber accelerator pump inside the carby. With older zooks that have spent a lot of time with old accelerator cables the carby can get stuck in the same spot for an extended period of time. this forms a "flat spot" on the rubber pump so the next time you go through the rev range it does not deliver sufficient fuel to the engine. In my carby the pump had been partially siezed and the engine would stall if kept at around 2700rpm but there where heaps of flat spots the whole way up the rev range

If it runs better when you have the choke pulled, it sounds like you may actually have a vacuum leak somewhere. It could be as simple as a disconnected or broken vacuum hose, a carby gasket or perhaps the inlet maniflod gasket.

That could be very likely, because it sounds like its starving for air or something vacuum/seal related. It idles ok, but then give it a few revs and it just drops out at certain range, and when driven it sounds like it wants to stall when decelerating, and also when taking off again (gotta keep the revs up)

We'll get it sorted soon.. the mechanical side hasn't been touched yet. Still waiting to get this front end resprayed so we can put it all back together!
