step 1: remove front bumper. step 2: create a mounting cradle for your winch. step 3: "u may need help with this one" hold the winch and cradle up under your grill and take measurements for the chassis mounting plates. step 4: add the chassis plates to the winch cradle and fit it to the car. step 5: bend up a piece of 50mm pipe 3mm wall to fit around the lower part of your grill and back to your wheel arches and fix it to the cradle. step 6: take another piece of pipe can be 50mm again or a bit smaller 40mm (depending on what u think looks right) and make a piece that from your headlight to down below your winch cradle across underneath it and back up the other side. step 7: make a support bracket from where the front wish bones are mounted to the lower pipe on bull bar and plate it in this will act like a skid plate. step 8: remove bull bar finish all welds off and tidy for aesthetics then take it to your local powder-coater. if you have experience with a welder and are mechanically minded you should be able to accomplish this in a weekend. best of luck with it and post photos. |

while the topic is current, any one got any good pics of some decent mounts? There is virtually nothing on the front of the swb chassis to have a good solid mount. Unless you incorporate some U-bolts around the crossmember. Joe- you would have seen/made something for a swb vit in your time? would you be able to shed some light on these please. Thanks Mitch |

How bad would air flow be having the winch up in the grill? |

I'd hazard a guess that most of us block a good percentage of our grilles with lights and other crap without any negative effects. I seem to recall reading that significantly more air gets to the radiator from beneath anyway... but I can't remember where or how I came across that... |
