Hi guys!
Do you think a gti engine can handle 31/10.5/15 tyres with a 4.16 t-case?Wont be long enough to spin them right from low rpms?
Maybe should i get some ring and pinions?

I'd be going 4.9 or 5.14 transfer gears before messing with the R&P's.

Wouldn't that depend on the application, transfer gears are mainly low range, meaning good low range, but still crap in high range, R&P do both ?

sierra transfer gears do both high & low range

im chasing lowering my gears, but thought like say 180% low range reduction, and 20% high range sort of stuff.

I have a set of 5.12rnp but thinking 4.6 would be better, so not sure now.

3.7 down to 5.12 is only 27% ish
so transfer gears would do the same job

I very seldom use low range, was thinking too low.

But I spoz you do not need to use 1st low hey, select 3rd or 4th, whatever needed.

Well lets look at it another way.

Unless you have the skills/ equipment to set up your diffs for the R&P change, you'll be lucky to pay less that $500 PER DIFF CENTRE!! for bearings and lapping. (more like $650ea)

A transfer gear set will give you similar reduction, and can be done at home with some feeler gauges and no special tooling at all. The instructions are also comprehensive.

Yea I know mate, but im going to add ARB airlockers front and rear, havent asked yet, but told they will put the RnP change in for the same price.

I have zero possibility of doing RnP, so its off to the diff shop.

bugger, I read it here somewhere that an ARB install was done and RnP changed same price.

hmm, may be a lot more than I factored in then, maybe gears to start.

Have the RnPs, got a spare transfer, may have to go that route then.
