I was given a very close facsimile (if not the same product) of one of these from a client to try out. I've had it on the zook for about 4 weeks and so far the fuel economy hasn't improved, in fact it's probably gotten a little worse. However the manufacturer he imports them from states that these particular ones are for fuel injected vehicles only. My client imports them and also uses them on his own vehicle, a 2008 Nissan Patrol (turbo diesel). He is quite confident that they do work, as he has noticed positive results from his own vehicle, his wife's and also a friend's vehicle he's installed them on. So I wouldn't recommend installing one on a 1.3 (carburetor) sierra. There is another one from HiClone that is specially designed for the carburetor fueled cars… I personally wouldn't pay money for one… But if Mr HiClone wants to give me a free one to test out. I'll be happy to do so, as long as he pay's for the extra fuel that I use

yep, during the petrol price gouge I had $15 for this experiment to throw in my 1.3 carby and saw nooo noticeable difference. Interesting concept but no practical value for me. Cheap lesson, mind you, its still in there

I forgot to mention the increased power that these things are supposed to give. Not really noticable to a great degree. But I feel that when driving up hills or into a headwind the zook holds speed slighty better. |

During the recent price gouge, I just sold my 4.2 litre GQ Patrol and bought a Sierra. Did wonders for my fuel economy

Yes strangely enough it did make a diff to fuel. (Don't bag me out) but from memory I was getting about 10.5 per 100 b4 I fitted it (from Royce) and after a tank or 3 I was getting ave about 9.2lt per hundred. PS Royce, I still have in in OUR shed

Good point, and a point that has be brought up many times before, But… Neither are extractors, cold air intakes, performance chips etc, already on factory built vehicles. I'm not defending anyone who claims that these hiclones work, nor am I going to dispute that they don't. Personal experience from trialing the free one I was given, says that they don't work on a carburetted Sierra. Obviously some people have these installed on their vehicles and they are happy with the results. I believe the manufacturers claims of 15-20% fuel economy improvement and power increase is a bit optimistic. After all a good service with a new set of plugs and leads will make a difference to an engines performance. |

Extractors are dearer to produce than a cast manifold, and make it harder for the vehicle to be exported to some countries. cast is simple and universal. Cold air intakes..... what is a bonnet scoop? They need to have it under the bonnet to stop noise. Not everyone loves the sound of air being pushed into an engine. Performance chips... if it was factory fitted why would it be a performance chip? Also strict emmission standards etc.... they are more and there are many many more reasons why they don't put them on As for the hiclone, blowzone, thingies the air intakes are designed by engineers to get maxixum air flow in, so the advantage of non swerling air is lost by the restriction the hiclone gives. Its like strangling your engine |

Its like strangling your engine Not just maximum air flow, what the air does (swirl and tumble)through the inlet tract is important as well. There are advantages to having swirl induced. |

If you are talking about the Patrol 3L turbo diesel it's made by Nissan, the Navara 3L diesel on the other hand is made by Renault. And yes, extractors do come out on factory cars. Toyota Celica is just one example. |

Well the results are in… The free hiclone/vortex gizmo my client gave me to try out has proved to be more economical after its removed. With "fuel saver" installed 10.43L/100km With "fuel saver" removed 9.75L/100km Note: the "fuel saver" I was given was made for fuel injected motors, it was to be positioned in the intake as close to the throttle body as possible. The manufacture also states that it is not designed to be used with a carbureted engine and was only design to be used on a fuel injected motor. |
