Yes, it can be done. Damo did it, check out his thread. Are you taking the body lift out?

yer i want to take the bodylift out. it acelly had a 3inch bodylift i have got no ider why sumone would but a 3inch bodylift in. i then put in a 2inch to lower it a bit. the bonnet now is just hitting the airbox. going down a nother 2inch its not gana work.
i am just seeing what my options are and as a last resort i will take the engine out but i do not want to do that too much shit to do

I had 2 inch body lift. I removed and don't regret it. I have 1.6 carby engine which is higher than EFI, but I may be wrong. It doesn't fit under the bonnet. I had original vitara air filter, big nearly as half of the bonnet. I replaced it with siera air intake and air box, got my friend grinder and cut the bonnet and made a scoop. Some people raise the bonnet on hinges, but I don't like how it looks like. So I did a scoop

Do you have the TBI or multipoint version of EFI?

I think the TBI is not quite as tall as the multipoint version, but there's probably not that much in it.

As Scrawn said I have the multipoint version fitted to mine with no bodylift. I made custom engine mounts which lowered the engine about 50mm. I also made a transmission mount that lowered it by the same amount. There is some info and pics in my members thread, post up if you have any questions.

No, it will put the whole lot on an angle. I wasn't sure if that would tilt the fan into the rad so I dropped the trans as well. It turns out that my fan ended up very close to the rad, so I think it was worth while.

Whatever works for you is the best way. Would I do it again? Yes, but next time around i'd try to incorporate some damping into the engine mounts. The almost solid setup I have get's a little tiring sometimes.

Pics are in my build thread.

yer i dont realy want the engine and gearbox on an angle. so i will probably try spacing the bonnet or give the bonnet the chop

The EFI 1.6 will fit without a BL, but you need to modify the inlet pipe bracket so that it allows the inlet pipe to sit down closer to the rocker cover. And it is still TIGHT!!

Having said this, the carby and single piont EFI motors are just too tall.

Tight? How tight are we talking? And is it the inlet pipe that only needs dropping? Do you need to cut any ribs out of the bonnet?

Cheers Dan

ok i had a rough look around and all the engine SHOULD clear if not it will come very close.
the airbox on the otherhand, no way it will fit. i might be able to lower the airbox a bit.
other problem is my winch wont fit on anymore and will need to chop into the body, any recomendations on this one?
and also modifly my tube bar.

nissvit put a 1.6efi in his Sierra with no body lift. He used a Calmini kit, which is basicly a modified drivers side engine mount.

Guess it's a weld on job. Engine will need to come out also???

Author:  steve [ Fri Mar 13, 2009 11:40 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: fitting a efi 1.6 with no bodylift?

not a "weld on" job. You just need to make a engine mount that makes the sit in the right position.

Author:  brendan [ Fri Mar 13, 2009 11:56 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: fitting a efi 1.6 with no bodylift?

so the calmini kit doesnt have the engine mount and i will need to make an engine mount?

Post subject:  Re: fitting a efi 1.6 with no bodylift?

now you're trying to confuse me.

The Calmini kit includes the engine mount.

I am just saying that if you can make your own engine mount you wont need the Calmini kit.

Steve do you mean the conversion kit that has the gearbox adapter and drivers side mount similar to BenTs on O/L?

yer i am capable of making an engine mount but i dont know how to make it so it lowers the engine

steve where abouts did you mate buy the calmini kit from?

Post subject:  Re: fitting a efi 1.6 with no bodylift?

I'm pretty sure it was new so probaby from Calmini.

If you can make an engine mount, you should be able to make one a little different so it lowers the engine. Sit the engine in the right place and make a mount to suit?

Post subject:  Re: fitting a efi 1.6 with no bodylift?

yer i guess that what i will need to do. but i am considering the calmini kit because of the engine/gearbox adaptor (gearbox on it way out)

if i do make my own mounts will need to make one for each side so the engine doesnt sit wonkey

Thats interesting. I've found the opposite. The carby and single point injected 8 valve donks (which I've got in mine with no body lift) fits with the stock 1.3 air intake pipe but the 16 valve wont fit without engine mount mods.
