Post subject:  Supercharger or turbo?
i was thinking of putting a sc12 or 10 for the lower torque will it work or is the turbo the way to go

Go supercharger!!! Turbo's are for top end go, not what you want for off-roading. Supercharger will give you a more even torque band right from the bottom.

supercharger will give you low down torque...but they also use power to make power...with the right turbo selection you can have full boos around 2500-3000,and with an aftermarket ecu,you can fine tune it for a better torque curve...also you could get vernia cam gears witch alows you to play with the cam timing :wink: ....i had a tiny s/c on my vitara motor,blow through into carb..was nothing special.....you can also buy underdrive pullys for the SC12(4agze charger) or the sc14(1ggze charger)...more boost...more fun

A well sized ball bearing turbo will shit all over a blower for low down power, but you have to pay the $$$ for a new one thats properly sized by somebody that knows what they are doing

I have been thinking of charging my 1.6 Baleno motor aslo. But i was worried about fuel/air mapping with the standard computer.

Carb maybe different.

Im not interested in an aftermarket computer either.

you can get a standard ecu chipped for turbo...or if you running low boost,you can trick the ecu into giving more fuel....make it think its cold all the time..

For all the hassle of exhaust manifolds, computers, correct size turbo and the tiny amout of boost you could safely run I wouldn't bother. It's only a sierra

you would generaly get the ecu chipped for the turbo you have selected not the other way around...i think a lil turbo like a ct20 of the toyota 3tgte would be alright,or of a ca18det(out a nissan exa)..but with running such a small turbo i would recomend limiting it around 5000-6000 rpm...as you will have huge amount of heat(smaller turbo more heat as the exhaust gasses will start to get restricted by the small exhaust housing...price you will have to pay)...i run a wrx tdo4 vf34..i get full boost around 2800-3000...and its got heaps of balls! :wink:

How much boost do you run? What sort of manifold? ( log, tuned length, etc)

Id much rather have a stick throw my charger belt than my rad/alt fan lol. At least you can drive home with your stock power back.

i run 0.5bar (7psi) on my own manifold(wich are for sale;)) its a log style manifold

get the ct20 diesel turbo or the turbo off a 2.8 (this is the one i used)diesel rodeo. will be on boost buy 1500 rpm and keep going till about 6000 rpm. diesel turbos have different angle fins (or what ever they are call) on the exhaust side so the spool up a lot quicker. limit it to 7 psi or you stuff pistons.

ct20 was factory fitment to a number of different Toyota engines, both petrol and diesel.
