Like the title says I have totally forgotten. 2nd springs. One spring is marked plus '+' which side does it go ???

I chose + for drivers side cos I'm 100Kg, and all other weight is on drivers side. Some choose the other side, if they're in an area with huge cambers on the roads. or have hefty wives/hubbys as passengers. Personal choice, but normally + on drivers side. |

I didn't think they where interchangeable?? don't the springs have a slight curve? If you swap them the curve is on the wrong side? |

Awesome that's why i'm asking as I nearly put the + on the passenger side as the 9/16 head bolts on the 3rd spring would be facing inward. Will flip them so they don't catch on tyres (unlikely but it takes 2 more mins to make me happy  )

Que? Running the low spring on the drivers side is complete madness. We've corner weighted sierras and the front right is crazy heavy. As for adding the tall spring to the RHS to offset road camber, that's just bizarre. Them car wont track properly- it will crab to the left, as in off the road. I'm going to say its absolutely not personal choice. There is a right and wrong way. Steve. |

Put the non-plus side one in the passenger side. The other side will have to wait as its got to dark and I only put the spring+shock+tyre on the passenger side so I have 4 wheels on the ground when I undo the engine mounts and pull the motor out tomorrow

My springs were original OME marked with A or B and one was clearly taller than the other. Rears were both identical. Now they are Dakar, and are marked + o or - apparently. Supposedly different spring rates, rather than heights. (Are your springs clearly a different shape?) But still same thing, put + on the heavier driver side. |

the springs look the same to my naked eye. I got 5 leaf heavy duty springs in my SWB, unfortunately the paint markings on them is gone (purchased about 5 years ago now I think) these springs are 4 leaf 'medium' duty that I bought 2nd hand for my LWB. I've added a leaf from the old (factory) 3 leaves for now as I have been happy with the heavy duty in my SWB. I used the lower spring, cut the 2" off the rear and put it in between leaves 3 & 4 on the Dakar. If I have understood it correctly it will only come into play under full load along with the original 4th spring, the added leaf is the same length & thickness as the corresponding one on my SWB. Spring rates would be differnet but I don't expect original '85 springs to be too stiff. I can always take it out later when the car is back on the road if I don't like it. Also got some OME shocks for the front (like my swb) and a set or rear ultimas on route from ebay. For a fairly Stock LWB I think it will be ok. |
