I have some remote trips planned and am in the process of putting together a spares kit. What are common things that go wrong? So far I have spark plugs, belts and a coil. What else should I get? |

I have, or intend to get eventually, the following: King PIN bearings and some spare shims Hoses (there are three of them) Cam angle sensor Belts Fuses Spare suspension arm and shock absorber bolts Wheel bearings Oil plugs for diff This is all the main small stuff. Cam senor is the most expensive of these. If you really get serious and have room then a left and right CV joint but that depends on what tyre size you now have. |

Add a crank angle sensor to that list. I had one fail on my M18A and apparently it is a common M series problem. See viewtopic.php?t=37131&p=679728 - Tim. |

Haha^ Yeah the shock and trailing arms bolts come loose a bit on jimny rear ends for some reason... Maybe some loctite and some bolts. |

can always get home without cv's. definatley some kingpin brgs and shims though +1 to crank sensor, i got a sparey in my glovebox from troubleshooting the fuel pump the other year. if u dont have rad hoses tapes enough to get out of trouble. change belts as service and hang on to old ones basic shit that im sure you alrdy know shep, mainly putting up for other readers. oh i dont think you'd have a cam angle sensor in your engine like mike suggests, could be wrong, but pretty sure they were only in the early Jims, even earlier than mine. crank is the problem child as Tim suggests. |

I meant the crank sensor but wrote cam sensor, sorry, but yes it is something that you can't work around. |

Definitely Crank and Cam sensors, apart from that just regular outback spares (hoses, fuses, belts etc.) I overcame my shock bolt loosening by adding two large washers on the outside of the bush so the movement of the axle can't turn the bolt, grease between them to help them rotate |
