bought a digital volt gauge off ebay thinking it would be a walk in the park install. went to install it and then hit a wall of confusion. it has two wires red and black. obviously for positive and negative.. but! I don't want it running all the time, only when the car is on access or actually on.. so how the heck do I wire it up!?

it would be long gone now from my ebay list haha and it was much easier to ask here and get a response in 10 seconds from people I am lead to believe will give me the right information rather than scrounging around other foreign forums :D

Just wire it to the battery via a switch

Post subject:  Re: digital volt gauge install

that would mean having to flick I switch all the time.. would wiring it to the cig lighter give me a ' as accurate ; reading as direct to battery ?

so you essentially want us to spoon feed you?

with the info you've given, you'll be hard pressed to get shit... post pics of the box, the unit & where the wires come from. are there any markings where the wires come out of?

not entirely.. just a straight up experienced answer. so that I can then try it, see it works and then help someone else if it ever arises again. :) Armsup

and it quite literally Is a display.. connected to a chip board with two wires hanging off it.. haha

 i'll crawl back in my box, i miss read the first post saying it had 2 red wires & a black... but if it's only got a red & black. the first answer was correct, it's on switched power... will turn on with acc power & give you a read out of battery voltage.

sorry chief

nar dude, all good! I'm not intentionally trying to be a pain in the arse haha :D it just seems better to ask all questions here regardless of nature as this is the Suzuki info hub and don't wanna get caught out not knowing something exclusive to Suzuki's and not other cars!

Ebay has one that plugs into the cigar lighter, just take it out when not needed. We purchased some and my brother compared them to a testing gauge and their reasonably accurate, they certainly drop fast when there is a drain on the battery so cheap & easy fix.

wiring to the cig lighter is the best bet. the only way it would be drastically inaccurate is if your drawing a lot of current through the stock wiring .eg youll see a drop in volts as a car fridge clicks on, and while the compressor is runing the voltage may be measured at slightly less than actual.
