is yours a g13ba ? if not it is a replacement one, standard coily motors like to die just after 100,000 due to some piston crap from factory

From all of my reading before deciding on what kind of ks to look for before buying my first sierra the G13s seem to drop their guts between 200-250K. Of course there's cases of people getting less and more but that seem to cover the majority.

What's the consensus of what is actually wrong with them at this amount of kms? The head is probably due for a freshen up by that stage, and compression will be down because of excessive piston/bore clearance. But that's generally it in my experience, generally no catastrophic failures eg, rod through block etc.

yer sam its a g13ba, i think it might have been rebuilt cos it had a new head gasket when i got it and someone's had the sump off and used gasket goo plus the engine bay was immaculate, but the owner never mansioned anything :?
im going to do a compression test just out of interest to see how it is but it definitely goes better than any other 1.3 iv driven.

cheers scott

when i bought mine it had the logbook stamped for every service and
also what ever else was done was noted in the logbook.
as far as i know the head hasn't been off the motor and the how far you've been thing broke at 299850.

it is pretty slow but it doesn't leak or burn oil. i always use good oil and
change it when i don't wanna mow the lawn (lots).

mine is running very strong at 230000. Never had the head off as far as i know but had a major redo at 227000 when the car was out of rego and i bought it. New radiator and hoses (now the thermo hardly rises until in lowrange for ages) water pump, fan belts, main seal, clutch. A compression test showed that they were all within 2psi of each other

Holy crap!!! 8O Can't belive the km's some of you guys have on your cars. I thought I was doing well. It's just clicked over 150 000Km and still going strong. I have the full service history and the engine has never has never been apart for any major problems.

Is everyone showing the actual number on the clock or recalculate with gearing?

I've got 268000 showing on the clock with the original motor and head. The last 75000 has been with 32's and gearing, so the clock is out about 15% for that period.

Been running premium in it for the last 6 months which has given it a new lease on life. It blows a little smoke when I start it in the morning, uses about 500ml of oil every 1250 - 1500 k's. Even less when I go on a road trip but other than that I can't complain.

I can complain, the A/C needs re-gassed after 20 years. :D
