-13. -15 encourages steering wobble but the tread on the 30"x9.5's is still inside the guards. sorta. makes it easy to adjust the panhard

Ey guys, Considering buying some gecko rims for my jimny http://www.geckowheels.com.au/gecko_black.html It does not have a lift kit at the moment so cant go too big Just wondering what a decent reasonable rim size would be? Also any suggestions on other rims that are relatively cheap and look good are welcome Cheers, Cam |

They are the same design as Sunraysia or ROHS Trak 2 http://www.roh.com.au/trak-2-series.php Standard offest for 15x7 rims on Jimny is -13. This will keep the wheels inside the stock flares. |

like everyones says get the 15x7 in -13. for the stud pattern of a jimny, I think you dnt have many options in a 15x7 either. the -13 offset would keep the backspacing of the rim exaclty as the factory 15x5.5 ones. so the new width of the rim would be towards the outside of the car... if that makes sense

haha cheers guys my steering wobble is not too bad at the moment, only happens at around 75kph for a few seconds as i accelerate past that speed But can get prty bad if i brake hard at around that speed So yeah ill stick to the -13 i think |

i would recommend taking the time to (book your car in if you have to and) get the king pin bearings replaced and shimmed so the initial torque where the tie road bolts on is 4KG. i had absolutely no steering wobble before putting on 30's. none. didn't even really know what it was. at first i had a little wobble, but within a week it destroyed the old bearings. i ended up with death wobble, possibly the worst monley had ever seen, and i think thats saying something. i shimmed my own setup after changing the bearings. its not terribly hard, just time consuming to get right. and when i say time consuming, i mean it might take half a day... but trust me you don't want your girlfriend driving a car with death wobble to the hospital. it doesn't work... |

Just got these gecko rims (10 min ago) gecko 15 x 8 i think on -13. with the wobble - make sure you get your wheel balancing done. mine was doing that exact same thing. I was about to get the shim kit but got the wheels balanced (properly this time, never going back to the other tyre shop) and it went away. they are rubbing just a smidge on full lock in the stock guards (but that with 235/75 r15 tyres muddies) will take it offroad this weekend and see how it manages with some flex. and yes they do stick out of the guards ... a bit. .jpg)

What was the price on the rims? I'm looking at getting some 15x7's very soon as it's new tyre time. I know everyone opts for -13mm offset, but would -6 work with 235/75's? Logic behind this being 215/75's fit on stock rims which are +6mm. 235's are ~ 10mm wider on each side so need 10mm extra offset to clear the steering arms, which is where the first problem seems to be. I still haven't lifted the car though. I have a 2 inch lift kit sitting in the shed ready to go in, just no time to do it. How bad withh 235's rub with no lift? Trimming the front bumper and arches isn't an issue. |

your logic seems fine, but the problem is that you are not taking into account that the factory rims are 15x5.5, so a 15x7 would have a different backspacing by using the same offset as they are wider. hence why the -13, as it trows out the new width of the rim out of the car, by keeping the same backspacing as factory ones. If you use -6 in a 15x7, more likely youll have scrubbing issues.... That if you actually find a -6 one in the 5x139.7PCD of jimnys sutd pattern. Another reason why the -13, there are not many options either |

well the 15x8 (-13) with 235 x 75 r15 on a 40mm lift will not flex properly on the back end, hitting the guards bad so trimming is required- only a tiny bit of scrubbing on the front end, but thats with the swaybar still installed and the mudflaps pinned back. I got quoted $80 per rim, it was $1800 all up for 5 m/t with rims, fitted and balanced. |
