Post subject:  Another Vitara steel diff conversion

I have a couple of questions, probly been answered before, but a quick search isn't helping me at the moment...feel free to post a link if it helps.

1. The GV diff has a bit of surface rust on it, (and some oil and some dirt), so I was thinking of painting it. What are others doing in this sort of situation? I have some Septone under-carriage black paint that I was going to use, but getting it suitably clean enough is concerning me a bit?

2. I have ordered one of the support bushes for the driver side which should go in OK, and then is it possible/OK to get generic axle seals for the housing?

3 From reading other posts I am thinking about getting a Spartan autolocker to go in at the same time, if funds allow. I have the 26 spline diff centre, can anyone confirm that spartan do an autolocker to fit this diff centre pls? And where is best place to get one from?

4. Regarding the redundant vac line connection, what is best way to sort this out? ( I recall something about using a small bolt to block the hole, does this require drilling the connection out or does it screw out first?

Thanks for any help.

Mike

1. wire wheel the rusty bits, degrease the greasy bits, prep & paint.

2. i'd put my money towards genuine seals, but that's just me.

3. NFI, an autolocker fanboi can answer that.

4. vac line hole is threaded, find a bolt that fits & bung some sealant on it for good measure.

Thanks Atari.

The cleanup will take a bit of time then with all the fiddly corners to get into.
