Hey guys! I got a 1988 sierra that won't idle when cold and it's driving me nuts I can't figure out what's causing it.

Basically the car doesn't start up when cold unless I hold the throttle in, and once it's going I can't take my foot off either or it will just drop to a stall... So usually I just hold in the pedal until it warms up enough and eventually it just idles by itself/run perfect once it's warm. Once warm it starts fine as well! It's a g1.3a motor and I was thinking it could be something carb/throttle related maybe? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Sounds like your thermostat could be open and your cold start is knackered. It's a water choke, so check the lines are still connected.

hey mate thermostat is new I tried adjusting the auto choke and it seemed to help a little at first but now it's not starting again. The repair manual im reading says there's 2 "lines" that need to line up and I can only find one of them (on the metal gear thign with teeth), I've looked all over for the other but can't find it? This is the metal gear i'm talking about, there's a nylon gear there too that moves when I adjust the screw.
