Hey everybody just got a 1995 Sierra softop got it last week currently I have put 2" cat back on as the old one was holy.. And have got some 30" a/t on at the moment

Wanting to know..

- have I got a good model?
- what problems should I look out for?
- any easy mods I could do myself?
- and anyone live in north brissy selling a bull bar?

- have I got a good model? Depends who you ask and what you want it for, but essentially all sierras are good, until you want to go above 30's/31's or twin locked. The ultimate sierra for a build is 1.3 litre long wheelbase narrow track

- what problems should I look out for? My experience is that faulty wiring is a big one. However, I'm lucky and didn't get rusty sierras. Usual mechanical stuff, wheel bearings, unis and basic servicing, rust and tired engines seem to be the big ones. They are simple and robust machines.


- any easy mods I could do myself? with 30's the first thing i would do is find a switched 1 litre transfer case and swap that in, it will improve drivability and economy.

- and anyone live in north brissy selling a bull bar? Check ebay, and the for sale section here. Being in Brissy you are lucky, there is a huge following of sierras there and many AZ members in QLD.

- have I got a good model? The only "bad" Sierra is a coily but they have their place.
- what problems should I look out for?There's not really any weak points or things that need replacing regularly in a Sierra. All the things that need replacing will be due to neglect/lack of maintenance. I'd start by checking all the uni joints and replacing the thermostat, radiator cap and hoses if they haven't been done recently.
- any easy mods I could do myself?Remove the sway bar, this will give you more flex. Just get out there and drive it and see what mods you need. I would certainly look into gearing options with the larger tyres, a properly geared car is 1000x nicer to drive.

Check for worn transfer lever bush, a relatively quick and cheap fix. King pin bearings/play, is another thing to check for.
Wouldn't hurt to climb under it and check all prop shafts for play at the uni's and slip shaft region. Most important is to get out there and have some cheap fun in your rig.

Thanks everyone!!! Will be going through it this weekend and having a good look I got it off an older guy who purchased it new it's just clocked 154000kms and has just been a round town car and did do one trip the the cape on a trailer behind and rv lol
