What is a Baleno 1.8L good for?
How many versions were there... Carby/coilpack etc?
Is this a J18?
Are they sought after?

Yup - it's the J18.
As far as I know, only EFI and coil-on-plug. The same engine was used in the US on the Sidekick Sport (SV418), it should be possible to swap it in place of a G16 without too much difficulty - you can also consider it a de-stroked J20A (same block & head), so whatever you can do with a J20, you can also probably do with a J18

I put a J18 into a 413 , tight fit . I bolted it up to a G16 4sp auto , the J18 ECU has the required outputs for the G16 auto . To get it into the 413 I had to cut the sump significantly , the 413 had no lift at all .

Sounds like its not commonly sought after. Would I be wasting my time parting out a 1.8L Baleno?

Be a good transaxle donor.

Yeah there's a couple around. I'd be looking to part out.
What could I ask for the motor removed with loom or whatever is needed for a conversion?

maybe 5 people have done a J20 swap. no one i know of has done a j18, i dont know what differences there would be, Considering no one really wants them i doubt you would sell it.
only a very few kookey people would even beingterested and they would want it very cheap
