I am having loads of trouble stopping the tappets from ticking. No matter how many times I adjust them they are still ticking. Followed these directions I found online:

after setting those 1,2,5 7 valves rotate engine 360 clockwise and set valves 3,4,6,8 make sure cylinder 4 rocker arms are off respective cam lobes.set clearance with engine cold intake valves 0.13-0.17 mm and exhaust 0.23-0.27 mm

Am I doing something wrong. Engine is a g13bb Jimny

I guess it would work but the way I was taught was get one piston to TDC and about to fire, both valves on that piston are closed, set those tappets then move on to next piston in the firing order (look at the dizzy to see which is next to fire).

And set them when the engine is warmed up rather then cold. Mine always ticked when I set them at cold (even to the specific gaps) but when I set them when the engine was warm, all good.

Myn are ticking pre bad was going to have a go at Myn this weekend as its driving me nuts
No dizzy on the g13bb have coils I was just going to no:1 to tdc then go in the firing order this is right?

If they are still ticking that bad then you havent set them correctly id guess. You need to do it a bit mroe systematically than just following those directions.

The way it works is that when one cylinder is on TDC, or the valves are "rocking" ie the exhaust is just closing and the intake is opening, then one of the other cylinders both rocker arms are clear of the valves and are ready for adjustment. You can tell they are clear because you can physically grab the rocker arm and feel the clearance you are adjusting.

When i adjust tappets i dont worry about counting etc, i turn the engine around untill number 1 cylinder is on TDC. Then i feel along the valves to see which ones are loose, i adjust those ones. Then i slowly turn the engine over by hand untill the next cylinder is on TDC (watching the valves to see the exhaust closing and intake starting to open), then go ahead and find the next pair of rocker arms that are loose and adjust them. And i just keep doing this untill i adjust all of them.

Tts really important that when you are turning the engine around to TDC on that it is DEFINATLY at top dead centre. And I walways turn the engine back and forwards a little bit to make sure i am on exactly TDC.

You can do all of this without adjusting stuff if you dont feel confident at first, just turn the engine around by hand, watch for the TDC to come up and see if you can find the valves that are loose.

I have been told set the gap from the cam to rocker arm, but then have bees told to do from arm to valve/ spring top

Hang on.....these arent hydraulic tappets are they? do they look like the above pic?
