Post subject:  transfer gearing

i recently changed my transfer case and noticed some changes in drive
i can now hold 5th gear and accelerate easy from 40kph
and she drives well at idle in low 1st and 2nd
before it was 60 kph in 5th and throttle needed in low 1 and 2
both cases look the same externaly
its an 84 model running 215 75 15 tyres
could i have got a different year model or wt transfer case?
seems to rev higher at 80kph but i have no tacho
holds gears longer on a hill
ill see how it goes on the hwy and check economy next week
just curious

Maybe a 1 litre case with a 4wd switch?? Yours is the 1.3l thats in the avatar? 1 Litres were made intil 84 as well, they have lower gearing which may explain it, But I think they would have different flanges.

Sounds like you've got a 1L t-case. Lucky you, they're slightly lower gearing, and pretty hard to find. :P

Sorry for the Hijack but can someone throw up some pic's of both the 1.3L and the 1.0L transfers to show the difference if any visual? I have a orig Sj410 but has 1.3L engine and gear box in it now. I'm pretty sure it still has 1.0L transfer cause it's still running 1.0L diffs and the drive shafts are the thinner one's (orig 1.0L one's I think?) I just want to confirm this thanks Robb.

not alot different externally from a 1lt to 1.3 case. the input/outputs flanges are slightly different sized but interchangeable as mentioned. of course some 1 lt have a switch while others dont.. they (1.3-1lt) also have SLIGHTLY different mounting brackets. but unfort. no pics sorry.. I can possibly get some of a 1.3 case if thats any help..

you can work out the ratio but dropping the input and outputs putting in 4l and counting the rotations..
