I got a steel front diff in my SV, an my mate has just bought a steely for his 1600 2002 Grand Vitara from a whrckers. The diff that showed up has a different pinion mount to the diff we pulled out of his, the exsisting pinion mount will not bolt too the steel diff i think the steel diff is from the newer moddel GV ? but the steel diff dose have a pinion mount !! My question is will the mount on the steel diff bolt too the crossmember ? Or is the diff from the later model not interchangeable with the earlier models? |

Your mate will need the later model pinion mount and it will all bolt up |

Or is the diff from the later model not interchangeable with the earlier models? Not quite sure if you mean it has just the newer style mounting tabs, or it has the newer bracket as well? If the diff came with the newer style pinion mount & bracket just use that - should bolt up to the crossmember fine. The brackets aren't compatible between older and newer third members, but as long as you have the right bracket to match the newer third member it will all bolt in fine. EDIT: Added a pretty picture

EDIT: Added a pretty picture ![]() Thanks Ninja, Yes this is exactly what we have as per your pic of the steel diff with the pinion mount an the wreckers also sent out the drivers side diff bracket still bolted too the diff so i assume we will use this bracket too.. cool "oneinkedgeek" you should have a new steel diff in tonight after work ready for the sand dune's this weekend.. Thanks "Ninjamoses" for your input!!! |
