Hey all
I have a 98 Jimny an I have fitted Sierra Free Wheelings Hubs, my problem is that I am
getting a faint an sometimes loud clicking sound coming from the drivers side wheel every noun again it mainly happens when I hit bumps in the road or coming out of a left hand turn, an when I touch the hub itself it is super hot compared to the passenger side.

Ok so I fixed the problem I was having with the clicking and hot hubs, the adaptor plate for the hubs was making contact
with inner shaft so the clicking has gone an the hub are no longer hot.

but now I have noticed the drivers side wheel has a negative camber when sitting on its wheels once the wheel leaves the
ground it just flops back to how the wheel should sit, there is a little bit of play in the wheel when you pull the wheel side to side and forward back
I've checked the kingspin to see if the were tight and bearing all seem fine, I replaced all the kingpin bearings and wheel bearings around 1000k ago.

Does any have any ideas? could it just be that the bearings need replacing again?

Is this with the hubs locked or free?

What sort of hubs? Do they have the 6 bolts?

What CVs re you running - OEM Jimny or Sierra?

Its when the hubs are on free
they are Sierra Aisin Hubs
Yes 6 Bolts

Your bearings are shot, or the hub is dry and causing a bit of friction in there... Easy fixes...

I wonder if the spring inside the hub that's clicking and getting hot is weakened and is not pulling the outer ring fully away from the inner splined shaft section and they are rubbing slightly causing the clicking when the splines tough slightly and the heat as a result.

When you pull it apart, pull the spring to make it longer and hopefully it will stop this if I am right.

Identify where the movement is. ie. Between what 2 parts. I'd suggest it will be between the swivel hub and the wheel hub, so the bearing.

Take the wheel off to confirm

Put the axle on stands, grab it at 12 & 6 and try to rock up and down. Just watch or have someone watch with you, and you will normally see exactly where the movement is.

PS: If you can see the movement when you first do this, take the caliper off and try again.

I had this problem with mine years ago, the actual hub casting had worn and the bearing was flopping around in it and that was only 20,000 k's from new. The fix is a new hub. So if the bearing slides in and out without a hydrolic press then that will most likely be your problem.

I've done a set of bearings for a guys jimny who I could slide the bearing in and out by hand. Must be a factory machining problem

So I jacked up the axle an grabbed the wheel at 12 an 6 there is a slight amount of movement, then
I tried at about 10 and 4 an the is heaps of movement at the back of the hub down the bottom , there is no movement at the top

When you did the king pin bearings did you set the preload ?

What do mean by preload? When I done the bearings I done it to the factory recommend specifications

Well where you are getting the movement makes me think that the bottom king pin bearing is loose, but if you've done them to factory spec then I must be wrong.

Try doing the kingpin's without any shims/gaskit goo. In my jimny i dont run any at all and have zero shimmy all the way through to 110kms

So I found my problem , i pulled the whole hub apart which was full of oil the wheel bearing was all fine the wheel bearing lock nut is stuffed, when i removed the king pin bearings they just fell apart an bearing carrier is split an broken,
so much for new bearings now im up for a rebuild kit again.
