After driving the GV for a few days with a slight tick, i thought it was just a Hydralic lifter not priming properly.

The wife drove it to work and then called this arvo saying it wouldnt start.
I went there checked all the fuses all fine, it was winding over slower then normal, plenty of spark not sounding like it was firing, pulled the filter added a bit of aerostart was getting hints of it firing. Kinda got it to start it sounded rough as hell and noisy as, i stopped it straight away.

Im thinking the noise was the timing chain adjuster not a lifter, is there some way to check the timing chain, photo of the marks ect, what i have to remove to get to it?
Any help would be great. Thanks

It was popping back through the intake while trying to start it also, which makes me think its jumped. Is there any way of knowing if it has bent valves ect with out stripping the head?

How many km has this motor done, and whats its service history like? i.e oil change intervals.

You need to download the FSM from here http://www.suzukiinfo.com/ coz you'll need to pull alot apart to get to the chains.

Thats no good! Same engine and year as mine. I had a strange issue recently too. I went to start it and it made a horrible noise. Like timing chain slop. I stopped it. Checked oil and it was low. I put 1.5L of oil in and restarted it and it was fine. Im thinking the timing chain hydraulic tensioner is playing up. Maybe a similar thing to you?

popping back through intake is incorrect valve timing , which is quite likely a timing chain issue , maybe stripped teeth off one of the timing gears .
I would not be cranking the engine by the key any more , first point of call would be a leakdown test . much like a compression test but without having to crank the engine , will tell you if valves are bent.

If you have bent valves probably best to source another engine , if its just stripped timing chain gears and leakdown test is ok , you will probably be able to get it repaired for a decent price , be betting on 12-15 hours labour + parts.
