Post subject:  Flexiglass canopy over centre latches

So I bought a flexiglass canopy to suit a Sierra off another member on here a few weeks ago. It came with 2 latches for the front section but I need to order another 2 to make it complete. The pics below are the 2 that came with it. I just wanted to confirm that the other 2 are the same ie the front section is held down by 4 identical latches. Is anyone else with a flexiglass canopy able to post up a few pics of how their front section is secured?

I was going to order the laches from http://www.protex.com they have a fairly comprehensive range of over centre latches.

Thats interesting... They are completely different to the ones that were on my 92 sierra, and my current 97.'

I think it depends on the make of the canopy theres a few brands out there. I'm sure flexiglass, suzuki, austop and TJM tourer top are all different.

Mine is a flexiglass. I've seen a few flexiglass tops and none have been mounted as badly as mine.

Front clips work great.

Rear are terrible. Held on with rivets, and a socket bolt is meant to be screwed against the rubber trim of the B pillar. As you can see in the pic they fit terribly and the bolts slip off of the rubber, then chew through the body. My high tech solution was to remove the bolts and wedge a piece of folded paper between the pillar and tab. It worked for years, but the fibreglass has now cracked around the rivets.

Mines different to that also. Those front clips look identical to those found in the front of a soft top vitara to open the front part of the soft top.

Mine has points for 2 over centre latches at the front over the visors and 2 on the sides close to the b pillar. Nothing attached to the b pillar itself. I think I'll have have to have a play with fitting it and measure a few latches. At $8 per latch if I get 2 of the wrong ones it's not the end of the world.

I purchased a couple of these for $3 each to try after seeing a few others in the location you mentioned, unfortunately the fibreglass is too thin. The only place with any substance on mine is the cracked area where the tabs are.

From memory these would have fit with the thread shortened slightly, but I didn't like the idea of it being so close to my head.

Both my zooks had flexiglass canopies.... and these are what my SJ80 ones look like.

I bought a few inches of nylon tubing, and slipped that over the tabs, but yeah, its a poor method.

I had one with those, the back part was flexiglass IIRC.

The top I've still got has the same clips as the first post.

Mine is a flexiglass, similar to Mathew's, but a bit different

Front, that bolt is meant to be a plastic thing that you can undo with your fingers, then the whole clip spins around and releases. I think that makes sense!

looks like flexiglass couldnt make up their minds, there's a few different ways they're held on. I'll just shop around for some latches and see how i go.
