Wow, who is "designing" this stuff? I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but with the exception of the ARB bar, who on earth put that on the front of a car and said "yep, that's made it look better?" Steve. |

But Steve, what if some people just want some frontal protection and don't care about the looks.... Oh wait, we're talking about Jimny owners. GT_Tony, AZ doesn't do stickies. You might get it moved to good tech though. Some APIO stuff. ![]() XROX touring style. |

the only two i like are the arb and the xrox touring style bar. I have the xrox touring style and in person it looks pretty good. the agressive tube bar from xrox isnt pretty thats for sure. |

Retires will buy it because it's sensible and they don't care as much for looks as we do. They also probably aren't going to care much about the diabolical approach angle. With some tighter radius bends and revision to tube size I think the XROX touring bar would look quite good. Right now it looks like they draped some jumbo spaghetti above the bar and said "there, that's the design we'l go with". I do think the ARB style uprights look is unbeatable though. Obviously It's a bit more costly than a simple bent hoop but I don't understand why ARB are virtually the only ones who use it. Please make that extreme barl picture smaller. |

The design itself would protect the car if it wasn't made of aluminium and had some decent mounts.... it's really just an over sized abortion of a nudge bar |

Retires will buy it because it's sensible I disagree with you there sideways. I think that bar is "designed" to prevent nothing more than scratches in the plastic bumper. In any more substantial impact it will increase the cost of vehicle repair because the brackets will fold, forcing the bar into the bonnet, grille and lights rather than deforming the plastic bumper which is designed to spring to a large extent. I don't actually think it's providing any function at all. (Except maybe somewhere to stick some lights) A bull bar of any description should reduce repair costs, not increase them. |

Yes, it's just to fend of light impacts like carpark damage and senior moments. I'd say these are by far the most common cause of damage to the front of a jimny. |

Just curious - how do bull bars affect air bag performance? I assume it's a legal requirement to keep them fully functional? |

Che wrote: Just curious - how do bull bars affect air bag performance? I assume it's a legal requirement to keep them fully functional? people go on about how they affect it but i can't see how they do. majority of airbags are set off via some sort of accelerometer that measures the rate of deceleration and if that rate of deceleration is greater than the set amount then the airbag will go off. I cannot see how a bullbar will stop them from working, if anything they will make it go off sooner rather than later as there is less to crumple that would slow the deceleration rate rather than a bullbar that will not increasing the deceleration rate. and most airbags don't activate at under a set speed limit anyway. but yes unless there is some mystical magic going on i cannot see how it will affect it at all for the worse. |

and you dont think that an airbag going off sooner is a problem?? They are a precision piece of equipt and not to be fucked with |

| Post subject: | Re: Jimny Bullbars |
if i hit something hard enough for the air bad to go off i'd rather it have gone off. its still going to go off at the same deceleration thats not going to change, so really its working perfectly as it should its actually working at the same time, its just the bullbar is making you decelerate more then if you didn't have it when you hit something, so adding a bull bar does nothing to affecting the airbag system. wow i said so really a lot in this haha edited them out |

This is what my brain tells me too. I do think that having it go off at less of an impact is a negative. I imagine that the airbag compatible bars would have some sort of crumple built into them, otherwise how can they be compatible. I do like the AMA Bahma ally bar except for the brush bar/step set up. |

I might be completely way off target, but I wonder if its a blanket type marketing thing. Technically it is still airbag compatible even though there's no sensors in the front end sorta thing??? |

I do like the AMA Bahma ally bar except for the brush bar/step set up. altho it could be going off in less of an impact the impact still has to have the same forces that the airbag would of gone off without a bullbar so really you would experience the same force on you and the car if the airbag was to go off with the bullbar to without. at least thats how from my knowledge of how airbags work, I see it. this is not saying that its legal in anyway to have a non airbag compliant bullbar. but you can always just think of some of the legal bullbars i've seen going around that have all sorts of side bracing and bush scrub bars they wouldn't crumple at all and they are legal. The Sensors are still there and on the car so its still going to work, |
