Hello good people. I hate to ask these questions.. but im having troubles finding the answers!! For the record, I have searched this forum, and others, and have found tonnes of info.. but theres still a few things I’m unsure about!
I am about to buy a ?1998? 1.6 efi Vit motor, (actually also getting all of the running gear, tank, gauges, exhaust, comp, lume. Etc). The plan is to put it into my 1991 sierra. I have just ordered one of BenT adaptor kits too. The qtns..
1: Which sump AND pickup do I use?? (I am SPOA on lux diffs)
2: Exhaust.. Will the standard 1.6 manifold clear, or will I need extractors? Also, should I chop the exhaust that’s on the zook at the moment, and then join the 1.6 manifold/extractors onto the current exhaust?
3: When I get the vitara fuel tank and pump, will I be able to fit this into my sierra, re-run the lines (using high pressure lines).. and then the fuel system will then be taken care of?? Or will there be more I will have to do to it??
4: Do I continue to use the 1.6 clutch?? (I will be using the 1.3 gearbox)

Thanks lots!!!!

I can answer the first q :D

You need the G13 sump with a chop and weld combo of 1.3 and 1.6 oil pick up. You need the 1.3 pick up to match the sump but where it goes into the oil pump it is a smaller size, hence the 1.6 bit needs to be welded on. Does that make any sense? :?

I'm not 100% sure on the exhaust manifold but I think it fowls on the engine mount? Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

1. If your spoa, even with lux diffs, you should be ok clearance wise. Otherwise. sierra sump. Sierra pickup, vitara pickup tube end.

2. I used custom extractors. They were offshelf vitara ones. Every brand is different. People have used jimny extractors also. Meant to come tighter around engine fo clearance of chassis/engine mount.

Few people have managed to use the vitara stock manifold. Just didnt work for me, outlet went into chassis. If you have it, try it.

3. Vitara efi tank and intank pump. Perfect. With a efi high pressure fuel filter.

4. Use 1.3 clutch.
1.3 flywheel.
1.6 starter(i have heard) I used a turned down on lathe 1.3 starter.

as bluesuzy said. though on all the conversions i have done i have never had a problem with the early manifold. the late model type 2 version does get close, but you have 1.3 engine mounts so it should sit ok. the type 2 manifold is also way better than most aftermarket systems.

Woo Hoo!! Thanks guys!!
So the plan will be:
1: Leave the 1.6 sump and pickup alone.. and hope that it doesn’t hit on full compression of the suspension??
2: Try the vitara 1.6 manifold, if it does hit, look into extractors or something??
3: Use the Vitara tank and pump (replace my sierra tank all together). I’ll upgrade to a high pressure filter.. will the fuel lines need upgrading too??
4: The 1.3 clutch is getting sad.. so might look into replacing that while the eng is out. Plus i'll use the 1.6 starter.

Thanks for the help peoples :D

Yes, New fuel hoses.

I use the existing fuel rail along the chassis also. Pressure and return. Piss easy to do.

Well i've got the motor and stuff home!! Its a G16A, out of a 1996 Vitara. I've got the 1.3 out, and have swapped the clutch over etc.
Got a few more qtn's (sorry guys)
I have ordered BenT's adaptor kit, but i will still need to run the standard sierra eng mounts yeah??
I have been searching around for a wiring diagram.. found a link to a site which sounds like it would have one.. but keeps coming up that the server is busy os something.. does anyone know how i can get hold of a copy? (please!!)
And finally, a qtn to those who have done the wiring!! I love playing around with auto elec stuff.. but i have never tackled a job like this!!
What Would you recomend?? Should i pay an auto elec? (guessing this would cost HEAPS though), should i give it a go? hehe, this looks nice!! http://www.trailtough.com/index.php?pag ... &Itemid=53
So at the moment, the wiring is scaring the shit out of me.. and i havent even had a "mans look" at it!!! 8O thanks..

I thought the adaptor kit came with the modded engine mounts?

Wiring was a mess for me, i had the whole car harness and it all intertwines with fuse boxes and crap.(baleno had electric everything!)

I mainly worked out mine by a ect/ecu pinout with colours etc. So about 3/4 your wiring is, either re-use for extensions, or chuck in the bin!

i dont think so.. heres his link to the pic http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m57/ ... torkit.jpg

My 1.3 mounts are busted.. and if i need to run 1.3 mounts, i need to get onto buying some ASAP!!!! hmmm.. that wiring still seems like a big issue then hey!! I've got onto a link which shows how to hook up the speed sensor.. that looks pretty straight forward..

Hey zooker. I've got that BenT kit. The black bit of what looks like modded rhs at the bottom is the engine mount adapter. It bolts to your driver side mount. The passenger one just bolts up.

After doing "more" research.. i now that i have to attach approx 6 wires from the Vit lume, into 2 the lumes off the sierra. Can anyone please help me out with this!?!?!?! I still cant track down a wiring diagram either.. the ones from the download section on this forum dont work.. seems like the suzukiinfo site isnt working  I have got the ENTIRE wiring off the whole vitara.. and most things are marked. To make life heaps easier, i would love to track someone down that is interested in sorting it out for me.. $$ is on offer!!! I have tried local auto elecs.. but their not interested.

It took me 3 months to do the conversion, 2 months of that was finding wires, and working out the baleno wiring hahaha.

Did you name each wire off the original 1.3?

If i was ever to do another suzuki motor again,
*I would put the whole harness on the motor
*Find the part that goes into the cabin. Cut whole harness there.
*Go to the ecu, then cut say 500mm from the ecu.
*Chase the colours for the engine harness and join. All wires should be different colours. Except for the earths.

Then there will be limited wires to join out of the ecu to the dash and Ignition, MainPower, Earth, Fuel pump, vss, Tacho etc etc.

I think the baleno diagram/pinout is different so i cant help you there.

I found another site, for google "vitara ecu pinout". If you take the top plate off the ecu. You may find names for the Ignition, MainPower, Earth, Fuel pump, vss, Tacho etc etc.

Im trying to help :D

Yes it is scary. But you have achieved heaps with ur zooky, Don't let this small wiring problem stop your ability! YES IT IS A SMALL JOB. Just you wait till you realise.

Hey Zooker, I think you can use the 1.3 or the 1.6 mounts. The ones on my 8 valve 1.6 were the same. Either way yes you will have to run engine mounts that are the same as the 1.3 stock mounts. I bought new ones off ebay for the missus car if I recall correctly.

As for the loom PM Joeblow on this forum. I seem to remember him offering to sort a loom out for someone for a fee. I think he was just talking about mailing it to him to sort.

Well the 1.6 is ready to be lifted in!! I found out that the donor motor is actually out of a 1995.. so all the wiring diagrams i've sourced dont match!! So, im trying to find a wiring lume for a 1995, G16A, EFI 1.6 asap please!!
Does anyone have any idea where this broken fuel hose goes please??
Image

And these 2 fuel hoses, im guessing the pretty one that has been crimped is the for the delivery, and the other is for the return??

Image

Thanks plenty :D

ummmm....for starters don't hook fuel up to that!....thats a coolant line for the idle-up actuator.

Hello again!!! Just wondering, can i remove the air flow sensor, and somehow install it into the sierra 1.3 airbox? The vit airbox is a huge piece of equipment.. and would be ever so nice if i could keep the sierras stock airbox!! Pics would be very handy to please :D

I didnt get a coil with the motor, but i have plenty of standard type ones.. just wondering if theres a way i can run one of them?? Thanks again
