| Post subject: | Homemade endless air, anyone done it? |
I was reading the air compressor shoot out in the latest 4WD monthly and how the Endless air jobbies move more air than anything else. This got me thinking about the 1/2 dozen car wrecks sitting in the fire training area at work in various states of dissection and the possibilities of finding a suitable air con pump. I also jumped on the internets and read all the articles on Outer Limits on what pump to look for. So...a bit of reallocation of job priorities at work yesterday an I now have a Sanden SD507 out of a "convertible" Holden Apollo sitting on the bench in the shed. What I want to know is: A) I don't really want to run an external oiler and separator as some on outers have done unless I really have to. Sticking a grease nipple in the top of the pump and squeezing some grease into the sump seems to be the other option people use, but wouldn't oil have a better chance of splashing up into the top cylinders to keep everything lubed up? B) Is using a couple of exhaust manifold studs as some of the mounting points okay or should I avoid this? I would ask this on outers but big 4WD's scare me.... |
