I've got a faulty handbrake switch on my Sierra. No biggy but i'm guessing it'll cost $5 to fix and rid the 'always on' handbrake indicator in my dash. Any ideas were I can source the switch?

If it's the switch I can send you one. But check your brake fluid level to check it's not low. |

Before you change the switch - disconnect it and make sure the light goes off. Those switches rarely give trouble. When I bought my GV the light came on with the ignition - turned out that at some point the wire to the light had been pinched under the shifter boot retainer and was shorted to ground. That was the first repair I made, the morning after I brought it home. |

x2 on fordem. The switch has exposed contacts, nothing to hide there. Most likely have a short somewhere |

I can turn the switch on and off by finger and dash indication is working as it should, but 'handbrake on' seems to be the default dash indication. Is it supposed to be a momentary on/off switch or does it latch into position? This switch seems to latch for a few seconds before dropping - not sure if that's indicating the switch detent is worn out, or perhaps it's just a really sticky momentary action? |

It does not latch - squirt it with some contact cleaner/lube and work it back & forth. Handbrake on is the default - when you lower the lever a tab should contact the switch and push it in, turning the light off - looking at the picture and thinking about it, the tab seems to be missing. |

I wish I could turn my handbrake on  but I think she is a little annoyed I'm going away for her birthday....But she should be impressed in the pressie I'm getting her...... 5 days of peace and quiet and a thermo mix. |
