Post subject:  Adventurous vitara owners
would anybody or everybody like to climb underneath and take a pic of the clutch arm the cable attaches too?

and possibly measure how long from centre of the splined hole bit to where the cable attaches?

more the merrier and everyone can have a go regardless of model, might even make it the next photo comp :)

I am having dramas with my clutch and at least know now how much the throwout needs to move (8mm) to release the pressure plate and give the clutch disc enough room (1.5mm) jsut have to now figure if the pedal is pulling the cable enough to swing that arm enough to push the throwout 8mm, if my arm is too long (reckon it could be) then it would explain my probs

and for more cool info, the cable needs to pull the arm 20mm to get the throwout to move 8mm (on mine at least)

i even took a pic, but when i re~read your post i realised that the 1.6L are cable & the 2.0L is hydrolic.

i didn't even bother to upload it to photobucket, i can photoshop it so it looks like a cable clutch if that helps or isn't photoshop allowed in this photo comp??

as far as i know all vitara manual non hydraulic arms are the same. they are pressed from steel and have two fillet welds in them. i don't think the sierra arm will fit as it has a smaller spline and are cast steel. the only times i have come across this type of drama is when
a) the clutch is a crappy rpm or pbr product.
b) the cable mount in the firewall has craked allowing movement.
c) the cable has a tear or split in the outer sheath allowing excesive movement.

I had dramas with mine when I put in a new Exedy (daikin) clutch. It would not disengage the whole way, and could not get it adjusted for the life of me.

The problem was that the cable was buggered, I had a look at it when I took it out, and I think it had a kink in the middle of it somewhere causing it to get stuck in a different position to where it was used to being used. How old is your clutch cable?

this is an exedy too, same thing cant get it right

cable is 2 weeks old now, problems been around since january and all jsut went to shit this week

morpheous, is that a vitara? I thought they all had the rubber grommet style cable

Joe, looked at the firewall, all ok, unless the pedal box is flexing where I cant see

yeah thats a 93 model 1.6 vitara GLX..

but who knows what random dodgey crap has been done 2 it 2 make it work.. i bought it dodged up and blown.

is there an alternative to exedy apart from custom, I havent been happy with their stuff for years.
