Currently in the process of replacing the timing chain and associated tensioners on my 99 GV.

Following the manual from the suzuki forums from Moses' post back here: http://auszookers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=633251#p633251

Anyway, all looked to be going well but was about to remove the right hand bank cams and then had another quick look at all the timing marks and noticed on the left hand bank the exhaust camshaft dowel doesn't align with the casting on the head.

Every other make lines up (crank was aligned with oil squirter prior to disassembly as in the manual), that is the right hand bank intake camshaft dowel, the timing chain sprockets on the right hand bank and the left hand bank intake also lines up. However the exhaust is about 20 degrees or so out.

Have I balls'd this up and not rotated the crank enough times to ensure all the alignments were right before removing (this wasn't suggested in the manual, just suggested to line up the crank with the oil squirter, not to check all the others) or is this to be expected?

I don't recall seeing the camshaft rotate at all when I removed the sprocket or chain from it.

Would I need to re-assemble the timing chain and sprockets I just removed and re-rotate the crank to get this to align or can I just rotate this cam around during re-assembly with all the new parts?

I kind of think that the camshaft involved has moved in the process of removing the timing chain No 1 as I managed to snap a pic before dissasembly (but after I lined everything up) that shows this camshaft looking to be lined up correctly with the timing mark involved:



I've continued on with the dissasembly process for now, will pull the camshaft involved back into alignment when I re-fit the timing chain and then I hope it all lines up after two rotations.
