i have an exedy hd clutch (pink housing one) and this evening a mate was removing it from the engine and accidentally dropped it into a tub of oil.. half of the clutch plate was submerged in oil?? just wondering if there is any product you can use to clean it completly or do i consider it shat??? and if so can you buy a replacement clutch plate the same for this kit or one of equal quality/heavy duty and for how much??? by the way it is for my sierra sorry please if you have any idea let me know as i am trying to get one for the w.e! thanks jamie

if you havent cleaned it yet attack it with some carby clean, if you have to wait till morning your screwed it will be too late.

but yes you can buy a new plate

how long do i have?? he wiped as much off as possible but there is still some residue that is hell hard to get off as it absorbs it?? is there anything else i could use?? i dont have any carby cleaner?? it has been about an hour since it got on there now?? or maybe even two?? what sought of price am i looking at for a replacement of the exedy plate?? thanks for the quick response

I use brake cleaner to clean up that sort of stuff as it works well and dissipates quickly. I prefer Wurth brake cleaner, but I'm sure the other brands are ok.

haha yeah ohwell it was an accident but it is fucking annoying cos it still had a fair bit of meat on it from what i could see..

An old bush trick for brake shoes that are soaked in diff oil is to soak them in thinners or petrol and then light them up.
The fire burns the oil out but doesn't effect the shoes .

I've never tried it on a clutch plate but it works for brake shoes.
If you are going to replace the clutch anyway you've got nothing to lose.

I did that with mine, except my clutch plate was completely immersed in oil, so the situation was a bit worse. It actually worked but for starters the clutch did slip, which is probably not good for your flywheel.

IMO, if you were really in the poo then i'd give it a go, otherwise just get a new clutch plate.
