Hi, I'm new to this forum and Suzuki's so this may have been asked before but I can't seem to find anything. When I put my '89 Vitara JX into 4wd Hi/Low, hubs locked, all I get is power at the rear wheel and nothing at the front. Luckily I didn't get myself into some serious offroad situation before realising. After checking underneath I found that the drive shaft still turns the fron axle so does this mean its a problem woth the manual hubs. If so, how much am I looking at to fix them? |

If the front axles aren't turning the wheels it is a hub problem, which mean anything from a thorough cleaning to a complete replacement - you won't know until you take them off and disassemble them. The OE hubs are Aisin and not that difficult to service - use google and you can find instructions that you can use to guide you, even if they are for Toyota hubs - they come apart and go back together the same way. |

Your explanation is not clear, exactly what do you mean by the drive shaft still turns the front axle. First try this, with your car parked in gear put transfer lever in 2wd and disengage the hubs, you can now turn front drive shaft by hand, now engage both hubs, if the drive shaft can still be turned by hand the hubs are not engaging. Now try this, disengage hubs, car parked in gear transfer lever in 2wd, you can turn the front drive shaft, leave hubs disengaged and put transfer lever into 4wd with hubs disengaged, if front shaft still turns then transfer case is not engaging. See how that goes. |

If the car hasn't been in 4wd for awhile there prob just jamemed up, hubs turn but the hub gears don't engage, pull them off & grease them up, had the same problem with my brothers vitara he bought awhile ago, the previous own said they never used it in 4wd, they wasnt joking, hubs needed greasing, 30 min job.
