Bit of a random observation. I've noticed every time I switch on my HID spotties the radio reception turns to pure static. Any idea what would be causing this? |

Its caused by the switching within the controller. Try rerouting/improving the ground back to the battery. |

I don't know how much current that you are drawing but you could also consider one of the noise filters that they sell for audio devices. That will only work if the noise is on the supply or radiating from the supply wires, if you put another radio near it is that affected? |

alien wrote: get a USB mp3 deck, problem solved =) lol That's pretty much how I roll. My iPhone/iPod is always plugged in and playing. I haven't listened to radio for years, but I got a bit sentimental for Triple J and bought an antenna to hear a bit of new music. Ten minutes after having the stations sorted out I was reminded how underwhelming radio actually is. Ads, muppet DJs, ultra repetitive song-lists... back to the iPhone/iPod. Don't really care about the radio static - it's just a curiosity. Grounding should be OK as my spotties ground at the battery. The controller - is that the proper name for the HID module bit? Do they generally emit a lot of RFI? I've not had my UHF hooked up for ages to check - is this HID noise likely to interfere with UHF operation? |

The RFI is from the HID igniters. It may interfere with the UHF as well. If it does then work out whether it is coming in through the antenna or the 12 volt cable. An easy way is to unplug the antenna and see if the noise goes away. If it does not go away you need to put a filter on the power supply. Jaycar sell them. If its coming in through the antenna then the work starts to check the earthing of the antenna or to relocate the antenna or add some shielding. One trick is to earth the bonnet to provide more shielding but also keep the antenna cabling away from the HID wiring. |

RE: new music, try having newalbumreleases.net open in one window, and youtube in another to listen to the ones that get your attention =) |
