Can I use the A/C system allready on this G16B into the sierra? i noticed the a/c panel is very similar to the vitara systems?? with the push buttons






apparently there is something wrong with the box, but will try and figure out what it is. apparently its impossible to get into gear once motor has warmed up... dunno yet as im charging the battery.


now all i need is an engine stand and crane; It's going to suck to work on car on the side of a street thats pretty busy. anyone got a backyard around toowong or nearby who wants to lend me a hand?

If the motor is going into a Sierra, I wouldn't even bother with trying to fix the box as you won't be needing it.
Leave the service until you have it out, much easier.

ah okay, i was told the gearbox is worth a bit? dunno :S

yeah the problem is finding how to remove this engine lol. im use to N-S engines not W-East ones!

The Baleno box's are weak and because of that there is a demand.
A good box could fetch $300-400, how ever, your box is likely to be no good.

Now I need to figure out how to get engine out, cant really work on it in garage due to this :/ my zed does skids in the dry just getting out of this haha

It could be a clutch issue?

Borrow an engine crane, lift the engine out and tow the bal out from underneath it.

I dont have anything to tow it with lol, not yet anyway. ill try and push it out with my brute strength tomorrow after i destroy it tonight

I used a combination of spanners, sockets and sabre saw to remove the engine from the baleno when I did it, we didn't have a crane at the time so it was 3 of us and a length of pipe and rope to get the thing out.

The manual gearbox is in good shape. drove it up and down the steep hill no worries.

so how do i go pulling both engine and box at same time in a E-W configuration ?

If you're scrapping the shell then why not just cut the front end metalwork off - that will improve access to the engine.

That just leaves big sharp edges to cut yourself on tho. They're not hard to get engines out of front wheel drive cars

That depends on how you do it, you can always dress any edges back with a hammer.

im having a hard time removing the engine loom. stupid alternator and what not :/

+1 for just cutting the shit off you won't need.
Alt plugs can be a pain in the bum.

Remove engine and box in on hit. Pop the shafts off from box end or cut them. Leave front suspension and wheels in tact so you can still roll it around.

You'll need some of it.
Taking the bumper, bonnet and guards off will help you with room.

Hey bloke, I went through the whole care and took the loom intact when I did mine, as in yes I have an entire baleno loom attached to an engine, it didn't take long at all just strip the whole thing apart don't cut any wiring and have a roll of tape and a text to label stuff that isn't obvious. Yes you will cut it out later (I haven't even started mine yet) but you definitely won't accidentally cut anything you need to keep while you're trying to get the damn thing out.

I didn't have the luxury of rolling mine around, it was a repairable write-off which had an impact (presumably with a gutter or similar) in the front left and it had the suspension torn out and the cv was broken on that side so it wasn't going anywhere.

You will also need the tacho from the dash if you're planning to keep a tacho as they are different to the sierra one which won't work with the baleno engine.

As for removing the loom there are plugs close to the firewall e.t.c. that actually fit through the hole pretty easily so you're not pulling massive amounts of cabling through the hole.

Is the power steering usable on a sierra?

You could use the pump and reservoir but not the rack and pinion obviously. In fact I am planning to do just that with my rig, I have removed the gigantic bracket that held the ps pump and ac compressor on the passenger side of the motor and I am going to make a bracket to suit these two and an endless air compressor. I have kept the idler pulley/tensioner from the original bracket to use as a belt tensioner so I don't end up with a slipping belt.

Okay i got a bit of the loom (stuck behind the stupid air/con pipes and cant get it out so here is what I have... hopefully im not wasting my time trying to get it !!!

Engine loom (from the black fuse box) to inside dash


from blue fuse box alongside passenger rail into the side (this is other side of the loom that I cant get out as its stuck while pulling form the drivers side!)

from the gearbox all the way to back (lol i dont know why, but i did it to grab the fuel pump wiring


The last of the mess I cant get out due to the wiring being stuck!! (most of this is for the black looking fuse box on drivers kick side panel

I cut all the dash out of mine, doesn't matter when you scrap the body it all goes.
+1 for cutting the drive shafts to the front wheels with an angle grinder so you can wheel it around still.
Keep the grommet for the firewall, you'll need that.
try and keep the whole body and everything until you are finished, I had to re-source a lot of things after prematurely scrapping the body.
one of the engine mounts needed cutting out too.
I mounted by computer behind the glove box in the Sierra but that meant moving the bonnet release in the Sierra.

John is right, that's why I took everything off the body that was bolted to it!
The dash comes out, I remember there was some tricky screw or something but it was easier to cut it out with the grinder or sabre saw it was a while ago now.
Good move on the fuel pump wiring, don't forget to take the tank too, even though it won't fit, the fuel pump can be used, I'm going to keep mine as a spare.

just to make sure; before i go get myself an angle grinder. im cutting these two bad boys? will the car still turn when rolling? need to get it out of my garage which is currently perpendicular to the door lol

It should do because they are just drive shafts, the cv we are looking at in the pic is for suspension movement, the one closer to the wheel is for steering movement. You can cut the shaft or remove the whole thing, cutting is easier.

Should be 4 engines mounts that need to be undone. Also a couple of wires for the gearbox & some hoses for the power steering and aircon
