Post subject:  GV Rear bar fab???
Team AZ,

My wife has ripped the rear bar off our GV and instead of replacing it with another plastic one, i was toying with getting a steel bar/ tube bar made. Or bought.

Does anyone know who makes/sells these??

I don't know of anyone yet that makes them for the SQ series Grand Vitara..... Would be nice if someone did.

Yeah custom is the only way to go with the GVs at the moment and I'm not sure it they would ever catch on.

We need someone like ODA to start making them but after the hard time he gets from people on here I'm not sure he would bother.


Ive looked at it and the hardest bit would be the corner bits...... Rear Tube bar would look silly.

I agree....it needs to be fabbed up by jml or something...

Can't even find any overseas companies....I'd happily pay $1000 for the right bar

I would love a custom rear bar for my GV, mine is only held on by cable ties, as it has been ripped off a couple of times now... :(

I think a rear bar, recovery points, tow hitch, maybe even tyre holder, combo would be the way to go... i found a couple of pics of some custom rear bars for the GV -

I did hear rumours in AZ, of someone going to make a custom rear bar, not sure if it was joeblow of JML... i just hope whoever mentioned it, reads this thread, and see's there is a demand for them... :D

Nope not Joe, he wote this not long ago - I will no longer be offering fabbed products such as bumpers, though I will support them.

And yeah $1000 sounds good but if you seen those gv sliders they were $1000 so a rear bar through ODA surely would be alot more.

850$ last time I asked - Went to have a look. Powder coated with checker plate on top and smooth plate under. Bit on the heavy side but it seemed really nicely done. Make up your own minds.
Am still toying with the idea to weld my own together.

IMO the biggest problem with those sliders is it retains the plastic sill so you lose height at the sill.

Doubt you'd get much for that budget.

A reputabe and well known ( amongst toyotas anyway) fabricator on the southside of brisbane made a custom rear bar for a delica van a year or so ago. VERY good job, but there was no change from $2500. Granted, it did have dual swing away arms, but IMO a fabbed rear bar without these is kind of pointless.

Last one is really nice. I was thinking about trying to copy it but plate work is so hard if you're not getting it bent up and shit.

So I'll probably attempt to make something like this, when I can be bothered...

I'll probably start mine in the next few week, if not than in early Jan for sure.

There's 1 problem with the GV is that it doesn't have any mounts to go off, and the chassis is closed... So have to weld mounts on and mount off that.

Ok, but here is my thinking... couldnt the bar be mounted on the chassis the same way a tow bar does, and perhaps have some short locating caps that go over the end of the chassis rails, the stock tow hoop on one rail will be in the way and be a bit of a pain, but that would just need a slot cut out... :D

Not sure i like the tube bar, but it would keep weight down, and i guess some flat plate could be put over the holes/gaps, to cover them...

Alex i want to have a look at the car for mounting points, i was toying with the idea for a while about just tube protection under the plastic bumper but a full steel one would be good, and thought of bending / welding one up.

I saw one GV with a toyota rear and front bar that was mounted with different brackets on FB, I dont know what model but it almost looked like it was made for the GV. Would be interesting to get measurements of different rear bars and see if one can be adapted. I gather the width and mounting would be the challenging parts.

Probably, i never got a answer back with model just that it was from a toyota i think it was ARB bars.

The bottom custom bar (with ARB Sticker) looks easy enough to do, maybe incorporate my dual exhaust into the bar haha.

Me and the Mrs would get in on this also - for future references hahahaha!!!!

might have to talk to my 4WD club and giev them my car for a week hahaha they've fabbed up all their own bars a few of them have done so over months when they have teh time i suppose if they all got together and told we've only got a week we'd totally be able to mock up something ;)
