Post subject:  Where can I buy Collapsible Spacers?

Hey Peoples,

Does anyone know a place in Australia where I can purchase collapsible spacers for front and rear diff's for a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara? I've only managed to find one place online, and they were after something like $37 for one. Do you think its possible to get it cheaper?
Something in the USA maybe?

Perhaps an interchangeable spacer with another model like Samurai etc that might be bought cheaper?

Thanks

Kind regards,

Chris

A differential shop would propably have them on the shelf.

I've not gone to a dealer yet because I suspected I might be charged an extraordinary amount of cash for what is essentially a cheap item, as per past experience. But this morning I decided I've got to at least have the dollar amount. So I will try them tomorrow if possible.

I hadn't even thought of a diff specialist, that makes sense to at least try them. But I guess I didn't consider it because I would've thought they'd be just that, a specialist and so I doubt they'd keep stock, but rather it would be an item they'd just order direct from the dealer themselves at a specific time of needing it and just on-charge the customer.

Ive gone down the route of shims (to use with the old spacer) but cant find anything that's truly appropriate in size to sit against either the inner or outer pinion bearing.

I thought there would EASILY be a company making universal ones out there somewhere, to fit ranges of vehicles (or rather ranges of diffs?) but that seems to be a no.

Hey bohuler,

Could you give me the phone number or name of the Suzuki place you called up please. I will certainly order at that price. Its by far the best ive seen.
I got a quote for them today too, and Suzuki in Mellville, WA is after $40 each, and $20 for freight.

I would think that the part number would be the same for the SQ625 but mine is a SQ420 .
That was trade price so $40 is probably pretty close to correct rrp inc gst. If you want to PM your vin number I can ring and order them then get the put in a postbag and sent up to you :D
Or give FTG Holden Parts a ring on (03)9753-1277. Just make sure you have your vin number ready cause they need to order bits from a vin.

Hey bohuler,

Thanks for the information, I ended up calling them and giving them my VIN. Im seriously impressed with them, the total price ended up being $52.78 (or something very close!), so thats less than $27 each. Peter, a bloke there commented that you had called them and unfortunately they are different part numbers for the SQ625. I will post the part numbers as a reference when I get them (if they're written on the packets).

I also didnt realize we could call a different car company to get those parts... doubly impressed!

Thanks everyone

Hey guys, just a final reply if anyone wanted to know the genuine part numbers for collapsible spacers for front and rear diffs

These are parts for a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara SQ625 2.5ltr V6
27315-60A01 appears to be for the front diff
27315-78E50 appears to be for the rear diff

Post subject:  Re: Where can I buy Collapsible Spacers?

BTW Ive heard various tricks/ways of not having to go through the pain of buying new spacers, for example using hardened steel shims with the old spacer, or heating the old spacer up and giving it a nice hit where it bellows out with a mallet to increase its size again, or similar other concepts. Apparently the shim trick is used often when he installs lockers in client 4x4's and hasnt had a problem so far. I did see a coment somewhere else this shouldnt be done in racing applications, but given we are speaking of suzukis here, i doubt that would be an issue.

So based on this, I thought I would provide the length of each new spacer if someone else finds it handy for using shims or another method of reusing their original spacers;
The new Rear spacer is exactly 51.72mm long
The new Front spacer is exactly 56.68mm long

Just remember if you intend to try the shim idea you MUST put the shim on either side of the original collapsible spacer, you CANNOT put the shim between the inner pinion bearing and pinion gear itself (this would result in your pinion and crown gear not meshing at the factory setting), and obviously dont put in on the large side of the outer pinion bearing either. Essentially, you can put it anywhere between the two pinion bearings is acceptable from what I understand.

Its easier to just put a new spacer in

Only time you should have to fuck around with shims is if you use a solid spacer.

With exception for the language ;) I tend to agree! (the price was acceptable for just replacing them) :)
However, I was first quoted $40 per spacer and so if forced in that direction I probably would've tried harder to find the right (hardened steel) shims/thick washers

Ive paid $35. For a part that holds your diff together just fine for majority of people its not at all expensive.
