Has anyone on has ever made a roof rack for a soft top sierra before or has anyone got one for sale?

I've got one, not for sale. I believe it was made by parkside towbars. I'm guessing it's from the 80s.

Fatzook (TSOR) made an AWESOME looking one for a red SWB, there's pics of it somewhere on the forum. I'd suggest getting into contact with him and seeing what he can make up for you.

Not quite the same as an exocage, but here is a roof rack I completed last week. Its pretty strong, and would resist a light layover quite well. The design brief was to keep it light, and obviously it is primarily a roof rack. Total weight is around 20kg's.

I was actually coming onto the forum to ask this exact question...

Have a look on LROR too, they are just very expensive and plus shipping!

I saw this picture of a roof top tent on a soft top Sierra and have been hooked on getting a roof rack so I can pop a tent on top!

Fatzook seems to be the man!

I've made a few now. Some roof racks, and some roof cages...

The rack in azzas' post is a Calmini unit. I like the design, but it is modular ( comes in lots of slip together pieces ) and the fixing method is very poor IMO.

I think the important thing is to keep it light.

^^ That exo looks the business. I would never have expected a soft-top exo to look quite that good.

I realise this is an old thread, but does anyone know if Fatzook is still doing this sort of fabrication in the Brisbane area? I'm looking for a roof rack for a soft top 97 Sierra SJ80 similar to his post November 30, 2013. Otherwise, does anyone know where you can purchase a similar rack in Australia? I've found something similar at calmini.com but between the US$ conversion and international shipping, it's an expensive option. Any advice would be appreciated.

Fatzook stopped doing zook fab a while back, sadly.

Parkside towbars here in WA are able to custom make this sort of thing. There should be someone similar in your area that builds racks for Hilux etc. If its purely to be use as a roof rack, aluminium might be a better answer. Given it's a sierra you want to avoid anything heavy up there anyway.
