what gauge/ amp rating wire should be used on the positive from the battery to the control box on a winch?

biggest you can fit through where it has to run!!!!!!

I think 32mmsq might be the min? lot of winch trucks run 95mmsq, really is a case of bigger = better so you dont lose any voltage

dont forget to make the earth off the motor and from solenoids to motor jsut as beefy

Go to BOC and buy welding wire, it's cheapish and will handle all you can throw at it

cable that size doesnt have amp ratings its all measured in square mm of conductor

yer there is
go down to autobarn or most car audo places and get an 0 gauge fuse block ( thay normally come with an 200amp fuse) and in while you are there you can get 0 gauge power and earth cable

and we have a HF and UHF shop but no stereo shop.
my winch in the instructions, says that it draws a max of 430amp for
my 6500 and my 2500 is 150amp. so wouldn't i need a fuse greater then 430amp?

I dont think you could get a fuse big enough to work with a winch, unless you had some kind of current sensor that flicked a contactor over a certain current

if your worried about shorts just stick a decent battery kill switch as close to the earth terminal of the battery you winch off with some remote kill cables (bonnet release cables :wink) so you can shut power off quickly should it catch fire

I fitted a fuse to my winch, damn lucky I did as my motor shorted out and with a 1000cca battery I'm sure my car would have been toast.

I got my fuse from a guy on Ebay... Derek Bester
It's rated at 50/400.. 50A dead short or 400A load.
