Hi folks,

Just out of curiosity does anybody know what type of work i will have to do to maintain the legality of an 02 jimny softop converting from a 1.3 to a 1.6 vitara engine in nsw?

i'm starting this project right now, and have just realized it could be quite costly.

I have been told in some cases it is a quick plate change. however recently i have found somthing that states i may not be good as 1.6 is just above the 1.56 that you get if you apply the 20% rule.

What are my options for re-registering the vehicle in Nsw if I have such an engine?

Is it possible that i can just get a back dated engine mod plate?

Should i try to find a "lazy" mechanic for the reg test?

Do I need to worry about anything?

Feel free to pm me if you don't want your opinions on the matter to incriminate you.

Thanks

Dean

how legit do you want it to be . seriously if the modification is done well (and you cant get just a mechanic to sign it off you need a certified modification plate "engineer") then its not that hard.

or you could just grind off the 1.6 engine number and buy a $50 stamp set from trade tools and stamp your g13 number on there , remember to dispose your g13 block at the bottom of a deep river never to be found.

I doubt any certified mod plate guy would even flinch an eye while installing the blue plate for a 1.3 to 1.6.

i recently got a car mod plated (in qld) that went from about 70hp atw to 240hp atw..
