My job for the day is to perk up the front grill. I've got some bumper paint, the weather is perfect, just a matter of sorting out the prep.

I already did this a year ago but I obviously did a half arse job as the paint is already peeling off around the hard profiles. I don't think the plastic paint likes sticking to the silver paint that I was trying to cover.

Just wondering if there's a cheap and cheerful way to strip this grill back to plastic without damaging it?

Had a win. Spray can graffiti remover works an absolute treat. Gave it a try on my spare grill and it's now spotless.

Common old paint stripper won't damage plastic grille or snorkel.

I fucked up. First effort I stripped it back to the underlying layer of plastic primer and I should have left it there - it was perfect. But I tried for more and I made a lot more work for myself in the process. I left the second round of graffiti remover spray gel on for much longer as the primer was less conducive to being stripped - it came off very orange peely and turned the rest of the primer soft (but unwilling to come off). Unfortunately the graffiti removal stuff has no instructions on the can so I took a punt on what it can (and couldn't) do.

I also gave my installed grill a treatment - stripped the top layer off back to the underlying paint perfectly (factory two-pack silver) but I bought the wrong paint to top coat two-pack.

Easy to tell when this stuff is working - it literally rises the paint off the surface in front of your eyes. Five minutes application is about perfect.
