Well I assume it's getting to the right temp but the gauge isn't showing it. I've changed thermostat and gauge temp sender but no difference. I'm assuming there's an issue in the cluster itself? Bad earth maybe?

Didn't try shorting it, I'll give that a crack tomorrow. Might have to have a hunt thru the dash loom |

1st you have to check if its the engine not getting to correct temp ect or if its the gauge .. a simple short test should tell you if its the gauge .. then you could look down the wire from the sender to the gauge with a multimeter to see if there is a issue there.. dont know the correct readings for cold or hot in OHMS for the gauge but thats how they work with resistance to earth |

Thinking last night, this is one of the times that a bad earth can also effect the readings, Sierras with a bad body earth will read the wrong temp when the lights are on but its due to the voltage regulator in the cluster playing up from it Does the fuel gauge read properly? I dont know if they share a regulator |

It doesn't go to full but otherwise seems to read ok |

I reckon its in the cluster then, not as much voltage is getting to the other side of the gauges as required. |

Mine and my mates both do that, I did the same as you replaced everything to fox it but nothing worked, ended up fitting a speco temp guage on the bottom of the dash and use that |
