| Post subject: | Gearbox Noise after G16B Conversion |
Hi All, I have completed my G16B conversion and now I’m trouble shooting a few things.. Firstly I have 2 noises coming from around the gearbox. First Noise is only there when I depress the clutch pedal so I assume this is the clutch release bearing. It is like a dry spinning rattly sound. Is it possible to get the bearing on its own? I couldn’t find any on ebay. Second Noise is a constant high pitched whirring sound. The pitch increases as the revs increase but the sound is always there. I was thinking this is gearbox oil low, Spigot bearing or gearbox bearings. Am I on the right path? Would like to know before I pull the box Cheers, Aaron |

Spigot bearings will not make noise when the clutch is released, gearbox bearings will not make noise with the clutch depressed and the vehicle stationary. |

This noise happens when I'm driving in all five gears. It stops when I press the clutch.. Well I think it stops or the thrust bearing is louder |

try this . put the transfer in neutral so the car wont move while in gear . run through the gears and listen carefully . if the noise is slightly less noticable in 4th gear than the other gears then it is the front lay shaft bearing , if the noise stays pretty consistent through all gears then its the input shaft bearing . either way both require the box to be pulled apart and bearings to be replaced so might as well replace all ball roller bearings while you are in there. |
