My donor 03 GV had a Command cruise control unit fitted. Basically runs a second cable to the throttle cam, this is controlled by a vacuum unit and a computer wired into the VSS. |

We've got the optional cruise control in our '04 XL-7. I'd imagine it would be the same unit they'd use in the normal GV. PS: IMHO it's just a universal kit that has been installed by a dealer.....  The main under bonnet "module" is located just behind the coolant overflow bottle. |

You buy a Command Cruise Auto Pilot when it is on special at Supercrap for around $200 and follow the instructions. The current basic model is an AP60. If your car is manual, you will need an additional clutch switch to disengage the cruise control if you put you foot on the clutch so the engine doesn't rev its head off, literally. Don't bother with the stalk control option, it is utter crap. There's a cheapie AP60 on eBay at the moment: http://www.ebay.com.au/bhp/ap60-cruise-control |

Sweet!! I see they have some suitable for manual/carby motors.... I'm putting one in the 1991 Vit for sure. Thanks guys. has anyone actually installed one themselves? It doesn't look like there's much to it... |

Damb that's clean Negative. That was taken quite a few years ago- probably just after we bought it in 2007 with 49000km on it. (I wish it did still look like that.) PS: We've got the stalk controls and it has played up a few times. |

I have put an AP500 (electric servo) cruise in my Cappuccino (vacuum servos don't work so well in a turbo!). It is pretty straight forward. In Suzukis with EFI you can tap into the speed sensor wire from the speedometer for the cruise control pulse input so that you don't have to dick around with magnets on a tail shaft somewhere. The instructions will reference a gearbox adapter but CAG (Command Auto Group) don't make/supply them anymore. In my 1988 Sierra, I had to install a reed switch and magnet into the speedo to generate a speed pulse for the EFI I put in (from a Swift) so I was able to tap into this for the cruise as well. In a manual you must install a clutch switch to disengage the cruise if you put your foot on the clutch, or you risk over-revving the engine. In both Suzukis I was able to install the actuator cable to the same anchor point as the accelerator cable with a bit of jerry rigging, rather than using the bits supplied with the kit to make up another lever for the cruise actuator cable. You must be careful that the cables don't jamb each other with the throttle wide open so as to avoid embarrassing moments in car parks, etc. Don't bother with the optional stalk control, it's crap. I spent hours and hours installing one in the Sierra and then took it out because it's nearly impossible to use while driving. I use the keypad mounted on the dash just to the right of the steering wheel in the Sierra. There is an optional wireless keypad you can install on the steering wheel if you need the wank factor - don't know if it works with the cheap AP60 tho. For the Cappuccino I used a Mercedes cruise stalk and switch assembly that I picked up at a garage sale for a couple of bucks. It's almost perfect. Mounting stalks is a pain, however. |

The vacuum control module is a pretty big thing but it will fit easily if you haven't already used that location for something else. It will also fit up between the engine and battery if you have to. Parts for it look like this. Pics from B4T
