Ok Suzy is the biggest heap of shit i've ever owned! But i would still rather drive her then the smooth fast civic that i had..Weird huh!..Or a *cough*x-trail*cough*.. Now down to business, My problem question. * When headlights are ON i have no rear power, e.g. numberplate lights, brake/tailights and blinkers no matter what. * When headlights are OFF, i get normal brake lights and rear blinkers. * Dashlights do work. so its not a simple fuse. (Damn suzy has had that before) The other day i heard something pickup and snap in my lights/ steering/combination switches. Is this a possible link to my problem? |

Could be several things causing this particular problem but I'd start by checking the trailer plug (if fitted). Jas. |

I reckon it is a bad earth or something like that... Insure it and burn it. |

No trailer plug. No insurance, no matches, She's not a jeep. So the earth for the tailights? They work, just not with the headlights on.. Going to have a squiz later in the morning.. |

No trailer plug..... OK... next guess would be the switch on the column not engaging front & rear at the same time.. Electrical contact cleaner spray or try another column. Jas. |

I agree with Lump_a_Charcoal. 99% of cases I've seen this, it's turned out to be a bad earth somewhere. |

if you click the switch to only parkers do you get taillights? and then will tailights and brake lights work at teh same time or do they both go out when you brake? the only correlation between the HEADLIGHTS and the tailights is that stupid fuse that blows and ti all goes wierd, its possible yuou could get some conductive stuff in teh combination switch but that doest account for the stop lights |

Most electrical problems on Sierras seem to come down to a bad earth somewhere. It's those stupid screws that were a bad idea on Suzuki's part |

To add to the catrastophe! Better than my screw...well bolt driven catastrophe. When I rebuilt the the gearbox I didn't put a washer on one of the bolts that goes in the side of the case. It stopped it going into reverse or 5th gear lol. Only just worked it out on the weekend. |

Well everyone chipped in alittle. Thanks again. Royce was just trying to fit in wit teh txtn nOoBs BUT DON"T GO AWAY!! Another problem is my reverse lights. I had mini driving lights wired up to original wiring. They lasted for a while then they have blown something. Fuse is ok. No power up the back to reverse lights at all. Yes i was a nOOb at one stage(still am at heart) Would it be the reverse switch in the sierra gearbox?? I have new led ones so they should'nt blow up again. I guess it may be a matter of finding where the power has stopped through the lines.. |

It is your reverse switch, which is not designed for spotties... |

Additional lights need to be relayed, just like front spot lights. |

If my memory serves my correctly the colours of the wiring loom that is attached to the gearbox reverse switch are yellow for one wire and red for the other, these wires are also covered in a black PVC Sheath for protection. These two wires terminate in a white 2 pin plug that then connects to a corresponding plug in the vehicle main wiring loom, the location of this plug is approximately within the region of the centre top of the firewall, the plug usually co-habitates the area the factory ignition coil is situated. It is generally considered best practice to make use of a relay when fitting electrical accesories that it may be possible that they will draw more current then the switching system is engineered to operate with or if the switching system will result in longer than optimal cable lengths, In my opinion lights consisting of Light Emitting Diodes would not require a relay due to their low current draw requirements, however reverse lights illuminated by Halogen or High Intensity Discharge Xenon lighting would be a lot more effective in illuminating the area. I would also recommend such lights be fitted with an isolating switch, so as not to bother other motorists when not required. Now for Rockhopper yeah its teh red and yellow up near the firewall you should of fitted a relay to teh spotties but leds will be ok but not at bright HTH KTHXBI!!! |
