I'm restoring my lil LJ 50 n i have another for spares, i also have an 80. all of these 4bies are at another property 4hours away n cant remember how many stud the 50 is a 5 or 6 stud, and also if the 80 is the same?

1970 suzuki LJ10 to 2005 Grand vitara are the same pattern.
5 stud on 5.5inch pcd (pitch circle diameter) so a 5.5 inch diameter circle with 5 holes in it.

pootrol/cruiser etc is 6 stud on 5.5

and if you have any really good tread bridgestone 4 ply bar tread tyres (600-16)let me know as I am chasing some.

i only have the original tyres that all the LJ's came with and know of a person in brissy, south side who still may have some for sale. i prefer the standard tyres as they are amazing for there capabilities and also chasing another set up myself

You can still get 600/16 bar treads brand new (not bridgestone) bought some for a customers 1942 Willys Jeep resto a couple of years ago.

Yes very very easily by the fact that the have 600-16 4 ply written on the sidewall or 600-16 6 ply.

Also when you are driving a car that weighs 600kgs from the factory with a full tank of fuel then the extra ply rating makes for a rougher ride.

gtfo? i dont have a link BUT my brother is 2IC at a tyre wholesaler and he reckons that tyres have a date stamp on the inside (which they do) and that a tyre should not still be inservice after 5 years past this date. I will see if he has any proper links or info for it

Seroiusly that is some pretty out there comment.

The tyre only has warranty form 5 years from the date is was manufactured. This will be the code on the side of the tyre after the serial number. This is maybe what your bro means


IE Date of manufacture. This is important as the age of a tyre can affect its performance. The first 2 numbers refer to the week and the 3rd and 4th numbers refer to the year.


To take your comment further, then when a tyre is remoulded ( not retreaded) and they put a cover from bead to bead covering the original date of manufacture what does this do? does this make all mongrels illegal cause you cannot see the date stamp anymore?

What happens when you buy a brand new tyre and it has been sitting on the shelf for 3 years. You only have two years to wear it out? Do the tyre retailers tell you this? If it was law then they would be obliged to tell the customer that. If you got a roadworthy then the mechanic would be obliged to check this as well including the spare if it was on your vehicle.

As long as the tyre is in a servicable condition then it is legal.
Adequate tread but not regrooved unless it is stamped on the sidewall of the tyre that it is a regrooveable tyre
No cuts or obvoius damage
No cracking perishing that would indicate tyre was failing.


( I was tyre fitter for 13 years, did most of the techincal inspection for Pirelli in qld for claims, and for other major brands, and had never heard of such a thing)

i'll agree that having a 5yo tyre in service could be a tad dodgy (especially as you probably dont know its history) but based on that I cant see there being any rules about it.

Just checked my tyres and no date stamp.

Just did a search. Looks like it's self regulated.

Could this be something created for high performance tyres and self regulated in mortorsports? As it's more critical for these types of tyres because high speed is involved??

I checked both sides of my spare and no date stamp. However the tyres on the road are a different brand and I haven't checked the insides.
