do you have other people you can test with that have AM CB's? dont expect to hear anything otherwise as AM CB is pretty well dead for vehicle communication

if its always showing recieving what audio are you getting? if its all whizzy and buzzy you are probably getting interference from the engine bay

were they AM CB's though? thats what you have not a UHF one

TC4600 would be overkill really, but would do fine

Your antenna probably needs to be tuned to suit your radio (SWF likely too high). Get in contact with someone at Delsound or even a Jaycar shop and they can help you sort it out. AM is still far better at UHF in long distance transmissions, if it's used correctly.

Hi beef13.

Your radio is a 27Mhz CB. The static you are hearing is normal. You can use the SQUELCH to avoid hearing this.

The fact that your vacuum cleaner made the radio noisier is a good thing. It means that your radio IS receiving something. (It is normal for appliances such as vacuum cleaners to have this effect on 27Mhz radios).

Your problem seems to be that everyone you are trying to talk to has UHF CB (477Mhz) radios. Your radio is NOT compatible with these. My advice is get rid of the GME TX835 27Mhz CB and antenna that you have now, and go and get a UHF CB (like the TX4600 you mentioned). You MUST get a new UHF CB antenna too - your existing 27Mhz one is NOT compatible with a UHF CB!

Good luck!
